2. my favorite is from the Chicago Dally News sports page
in the early 1960s. The White Sox star pitcher Gary Peters went on the disabled list. The headline read "Sox face Boston with Peters out." What a mental image that caused!

6. This, of course, was intentional, too -- and perhaps with not very kind intention
but even lots of us liberals laughed our sodas out of noses when we saw it

The Sampson Independent got itself lots of attention for a small paper: this was noticed around the state
