4. I know. And the SNL Weekend Update did a great bit on it.
That is, not making fun of the ASPCA, but of whassername, the singer. Sara McLAUGHLIN. The fake Sara was at the desk with him and started wailing that song and Seth said, pissed off, "Don't sing that song, Sara." And the bit went on and she started again, and he kept saying, "I'm TELLING you NOT to sing that song!1"

She's great and her mission is great, but it is just too much.

6. Same here.
Everyone I know says the same thing, which leads me to believe the ads might be defeating their purpose. If lots of people cry and turn them off or mute them, what good do they do?

7. They make me cry too
and are so hard to look away from. That darn song . . . It sucks me in every time. I must've donated a dozen times now, just to assuage my guilt over those sad puppy eyes and scared kitty faces.

I think I've got, like, 3 monthly donations going to those folks now. Just cause they play those ads late at night when they KNOW damn well that I'm easy prey (like so many others).

8. Me, too.
I turn the channel. There are at least 3 songs I now only associate with images of abused animals.

11. Yeah, I used to love that "Arms of the Angel" song.
Now when it plays, all I think about is abused cats and dogs.

18. Let me guess..."First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" is one of them, too.
Can't hear that song without thinking of abused animals now, either.

22. Also, "You Were Always On My Mind"
As if it wasn't a sad enough song to begin with.

23. Not sure why you mentioned this one
But it was recently used in a video for a beautiful little dog named Hope that was killed by abuse and neglect so it'll be on my list from now on... :(

10. We have to change the channel.
Too heart-rending. We support Best Friends, so it's not like we're turning our backs on the critters.

14. I get mad and change the channel.
Edited on Wed Aug-03-11 09:53 AM by Iggo
Instead of feeling bad for the animals, I get all pissed-off at the ad people trying to tug on my heartstrings. So I change the channel before I start transferring that resentment to the animals depicted. Doesn't stop me from donating what I can here and there. I just can't watch that shit.

15. Cry...and then spay/neuter!
Spaying and neutering is the only way we will ever get to no kill!

Please: be a responsible pet parent and have your pet spayed or neutered.

Please: when you are in the market for a new pet check out the local shelters before buying from a breeder.

One day, hopefully, the crying can stop.
