Anyone reading A Dance With Dragons?

Though I bet if anyone is, they aren't online here, LOL. As one of the scriptwriters said at Comic Con,
"It's like crack on paper."

I just finished it....at 3 a.m. I was reading from noon until 3 a.m.

Magnificent work. I kept reading sentences and paragraphs to my husband (non-spoilers as he is on Book 1)
just to share his exquisite writing. I wish I'd saved some quotes, just for the pleasure of reading them
again.
And once again, he had me yelling out OMG in a number of places. Especially at the end, of course.

he wrote so many books (aside from the Fire and Ice series)!

I kept telling myself not to read it so quickly, but it did no good. Now it'll likely be six years until the next one. I didn't start reading them until I saw it on HBO, so this will be my first A Song of Ice and Fire lull, something I was quite used to when reading The Dark Tower.

Just loved it for the most part, Martin is really hitting his writing stride.

Yes, I know the "OMG!" feeling...that happened multiple times. The oldest son is reading it now, I have to keep quiet for him to finish.

at how much I forgot from when I read it 10-11 years ago. But, Feast for Crows & Dance with Dragons will both be entirely new to me, and hopefully the first 3 books will be fresh.

Hopefully, I won't have to re-read the books if Martin doesn't put book 6 out until 2017 or so.

I started a spoiler discussion thread in the Fantasy group, but nobody's replied. :(

I loved it. The major character death was shocking, the suspense regarding the revolution in the east was amazing, and the state of the plot lines is fascinating.

I think "Major Character" is coming back, though. :evilgrin:

George RR Martin: please don't kill my favorite characters, please don't kill my favorite characters, please don't kill my favorite characters...

It's a lost cause. He bumps at least one off in every book, and by the end of "Feast for Crows" virtually everyone he started with is now maimed/imprisoned/exiled/disfigured or dead, and some are rapidly turning into hopeless alcoholics. Westeros is in dire need of some AA meetings. And a good disability rights group, not to mention a decent funeral home.

Don't know why I continue. Every time a sympathetic character gets killed or permanently crippled I weep. But I gotta find out if Jon Snow's parents are who I suspect, and the real nature of the Others. It really is "crack on paper"!

33. Got it in the mail on the evening of Wednesday the 13th.

Finished it by Friday or Saturday night. If I'd had a day off (had to work that Saturday), I could have ripped through it in one sitting.

Much love for Lord Manderly -- he's significantly moved up on my list of favorite characters. Balls. Of. Steel.

Now I need to find time to re-read it and look for any subtleties/foreshadowing that I missed. (I understood the implications of Manderly's pies -- although that wasn't exactly subtle, by Martin's standards.)
