Drawing a blank re: Star Trek TOS
During the original run, did we ever see other transporters like the Federation's? I'm thinking of other, similar effects, with the shimmering colors during the materialization sequence.

I didn't recall any, but tonight I watched The Cloud Minders and was surprised to see a different visual style. Admittedly, this may be due to the effects upgrade that the series underwent a few years ago, but the city of Stratos used an transporter that enveloped the subjects in a reddish shimmer.

Were there others?

5. Couldn't remember for sure about them
I thought I remembered them having a different look, but I wasn't sure.

Thanks!

But not as safe.

2. Some of aliens could just *pop* into the bridge, as if someone just stopped the camera & walked on
ISTR a few times they used a different glimmering effect for different teleporting technologies. But I ain't geek enough to cite you episode & date.

8. I believe that the "pop on" was usually accompanied buy a sort of honking, clang noise!
That's how you know that it's alien, you see.

3. Day of the Dove
Had to get an Ansara fix so watched Day of the Dove. Klingons beam to the planet in the first scene with a different look.

6. Thanks! Love that episode!
I remembered Scotty holding them in the pattern buffer, but I had forgotten that they beamed down in the first place.

10. I think the Pakleds took the bus in one episode.
The dumbest alien race on Star Trek. Too moronic to use a transporter.

15. I like that about Star Trek: taunt "Ferengis" not Jews; make fun of "Pakleds" not Down's Syndrome
In the big picture, it's better to talk about evil Klingons rather than hurting the feelings of actual nazis.

17. Hey, start your own thread
I'm talking about The Original Series. Kirk has nothing to say about Ferengi or Pakleds.

Several, in fact, but the one I saw was Uncle Simon

He was modified slightly, but he was unmistakably Robby!

16. I just remembered another non-Federation transporter-ish effect
In That Which Survives, the deadly, cell-disrupting woman disappeared in a sort of "folding" effect in which she compressed first into a vertical line and then into a point and then poof!

Of course, she wasn't entirely real or solid, so that might not count as a transporter.
