Was I a schmuck???
My friend and I made plans to meet up in New Orleans to go to the (don't laugh) the American Idol concert.

I bought two tickets for $75 apiece. I got them the minute they went on sale and they are primo seats

Now, on ticket exchange, these tickets are selling for between $1015 and $2000 each.

I wrote her to talk about selling them - saying we could still go, have our hotel paid for, eat at the best restaurants, go to a spa, shop, and still have money left over.

She is now mad and snippy. Said that I took all the buzz out of the trip for her.

Was I wrong??

1. So you're offering to treat her to a much nicer weekend
in exchange for worse seats, and she's pissed at you for ruining her weekend?

2. guess it's one of those things...I underestimated how much she
wanted to go. It is just so incomprehensible to me how someone could want to go so badly.
I tried to watch Idol this year and I had to mute the TV most of the time when they
sang. But, suppose people would think I'd be crazy - because I would probably spend
a fortune to see the Yankees.

But,think she thinks I am choosing money over friendship which I am trying to wrap
my head around. One or two thousand is a lot of money.

7. yup. I'm with Raven here.
You could make between $1-2K (possibly $4K) and your friend insists that you don't, all to go to an American Idol concert?

I'm cranky today, so I'll just say, "f*ck that sh*t". Sell your ticket, tell her you'll meet her after the show.

6. Are there still tickets for sale?
If the concert is sold out you might have to pay a few hundred dollars for the bad seats too.

Other than that, I'd rather sell the tickets and have a blast with the extra cash but that's just me.

8. You're not a schmuck - you just didn't realize how much
your friend likes AI (an honest and reasonable mistake, IMO). I'd say go and carry out the original plan, and have fun with your friend - you haven't really lost anything or spent more than you originally planned. However, it's going to be difficult if she's complaining in advance that you ruined the trip - I'd say that makes her the schmuck.

I would have called you a schmuck for buying AI tickets in the first place, except that they turned out to be such awesome investments. Now I merely admire your financial acumen... :)

9. I'd sell the tickets, but then I wouldn't be caught dead at an American Idol
concert in the first place :P

Seriously though, you could have an awesome time in New Orleans with $4000...

13. It's just different expectations between two people.
She may have been looking forward to the really good seats, but YOU paid for them & it's her place to go with the flow. She'd be a good sport to congratulate you in getting the extra money. If she's angry, ask someone else to go.

Have fun!

14. If American Idol tickets are selling for between $1015 and $2000, you should flee the country
Sell your tickets for tickets out of this damned place. Honestly, who'd want to live in a society as fucked up as that?
