Petition for stronger animal cruelty laws
Hi all, if you haven't seen or heard about Patrick the dog starved nearly to death then stuffed in a garbage bag and thrown down a garbage chute in NJ, well, you have now. Believe it or not, he survived and his owner is facing charges for her criminal acts. Sadly, she is likely to get off with little more than a slap on the wrist due to our appallingly lax animal cruelty laws. If you would like to add your voice to the thousands of others calling for more stringent laws to protect animals and prosecute those who abuse them, please consider signing your name to this petition: http://apps.facebook.com/petitions/1/patrick-starved-dog-thrown-down-garbage-chute/

2. Kicking for more views
The person who made the petition was hoping for 1,000 signatures. There are now over 20,000 in just 2 - 3 days from all over the world. Is yours one?

4. Yep, heard about Patrick earlier this week
Awful story. Also Caroline in Atlanta, another dog starvation story. I just do not get people who do these things, and never want to, either. I've signed the petition, "shared" on Facebook, and everyone I know is getting a dose of that poor pup's sad little face.

Animal abuse laws have got to change, to be stricter and to bring about real punishment, otherwise it's just not any kind of justice.

Thanks for posting, also.

8. IN PA, our new GOP government wants to overturn an anti-puppy mill law
Edited on Mon Mar-28-11 12:21 PM by old mark
that was passed overwhelmingly just last fall! There is no end to the evil in human beings...

Signed...thanks.

added: we recently adopted a rescued dog. someone had broken his back leg and abandoned him, and he was in a killing shelter when he was found and saved by an organization. He needed surgeries and over a year of recovery. He was driven here from his foster home in Georgia and we have had him for a bit over 3 weeks. He is a really sweet and smart dog, and the happiest being I have ever seen.

10. Thanks Mark
I've seen your posts about your new dog - thank you for adopting him. I have a rescue myself and, 3 years into it, we are still working to overcome her fears. Like yours though, she is the smartest, happiest doggie I know (when she's not scared, of course. :) )

There's a video of Patrick eating that's really heartwarming if you have interest: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUUMMxvT1iE

It is incomprehensible to me how he managed to survive.

11. If there is such a thing as heaven,
I would like to think that there is a special place in it for people who take in abused and damaged rescues. Thanks for giving him a home.

And if there is such a place, it may well be my only hope and salvation . . . .

9. Yeah, why should only weaker animals be protected? Stronger animals are victims of cruelty too!
:silly:

13. You're right, but I must disagree with you on one aspect
Edited on Tue Mar-29-11 08:27 AM by meow2u3
Stronger animals, such as elephants, tigers, bears, etc., are also routinely abused, but they can--and do--one thing weaker and/or smaller animals cannot: they fight back and kill their abusers!

Sadly, society blames the abused animal for retaliating against their abusers and the authorities have them killed. Personally, the abuser deserved it from the animal, who was only protecting him or herself.

Edit: corrected spelling
