Grew up in that time too - when the Zep, James Brown, and the Carpenters were all on the same radio station.

8. Talk about originators...
And you could fill a week with their influences - like Buddy Holly and Gene Pitney.

12. Some poster reminded me of this classic recently:

(More youtube changes...)

...

On another note:

Yesterday's internet problems haven't been repeated this wakeup. (What a relief.)

I don't know if I've ever been to bing before (no history, bookmark, drop-down, etc, points to it); a lot of pages look pretty weird with no scripts, flash, pictures, Java, etc, enabled. And you get to recognize the look of a page that expects some of those things, but doesn't find them... even if you see it only briefly.

One of the normal status phases (shown in the status bar) a browser reports (can report) is (DNS) lookup. Normally, it's pretty hard to see unless you know what to expect, are looking for it, and are a pretty quick, careful observer. However, when DNS slows down (like preparatory to failing in a lookup), the lookup (looking up) status hangs around for a while.

The simplest explanation is a (DNS) not-found redirect by my isp that was unusual (together with some DNS problem... which is not unknown with my isp), like to a page that tosses that redirect to bing.

How that happened, I dunno; if it was just once, I'd think glitch. Maybe somebody was testing a new redirect (or making some other change) and accidently (or purposely at a time of, I imagine, pretty low usage) went live for a time. I've seen suchlike screwups happen before (but not this one: "Where'd bing come from?").

(BTW, I appreciate page-designers who give some thought to how pages will look to browsers that are "buttoned-down", or otherwise commonly configured. Too few of them do, imo.)

Eh, I'm leaning to going back to not mentioning such things. The odds are that a problem is a local thing, and people can misinterpret.
