1. I've never heard of her before, but
saw an interview with her that was pretty impressive...she's poised and well-spoken for a 14 year old. I forget who designed her dress but she said it was exactly like the picture she had drawn of what she wanted her dress to look like.

I think I'm with you on the shoes!

:)

7. She was in the True Grit remake...
which I've only seen clips of; but based on that minimal exposure, I think I'm going to like it better than the original.

10. It is much better than the original.
To me, the original waa just one more run-of-the-mill John Wayne Western. The Coen brothers' remake has much more depth and heart.

I was really rooting for Hailee to win -- I guess the judges thought she was too young. But you could very well make a favorable comparison between her and Tatum O'Neal in Paper Moon.

2. She'll grow into them in time
That, or she will select sensible shoes when she accepts her Ocsar, like, next year. In the mean time, I'm happy she's having a wonderful time feeling dressed up.

23. She's not a woman.
She's a fourteen-year-old girl.

3. As I'm well known and regarded for my fashion savvy, I feel safe in offering

my opinion on her dress: women should not wear dresses that exactly match their skin color. She looks completely washed out.

Having said that, and not wanting to seem like I'm picking on a 14 year old girl, I think she looks really nice and I hope she had a great time.

9. While I agree,
I think part of the "washed out" look is the result of the background in the photo.

4. I thought her dress was very cute and age appropriate, but
the shoes look like she grabbed a pair from her mom or grandma's closet.

8. That's what I thought...
A dressy pair of pumps with half the heel height would have been a better choice.

The kind the Obama girls frequently wear. The do make dressy versions.

22. Yep.
I cringe whenever I see children her age in heels that high. A flatter shoe would have been more appropriate, not only because of her age, but because of that dress. Those shoes just don't go with it.

14. My 14 yr old says the dress is classic but the heels are "ugh".
She's also too "beige" - everything blends and needs some color.

So there's that. :P From one 14 yr old to another.

19. Clearly your 14 yo has good taste!
The dress would look better on her if it wasn't so pale...maybe a nice shade of lilac.

20. At first I wanted to agree. But then, wait; is that not a ballet stance;
is she not really a ballerina? Is it not meant to suggest en toe or whatever the french is for that?
I see her as being very capable of doing the whole thing on her toes.

25. If I had such an accomplished daughter, I'd not a say a word about her shoes,
even if I hated them. I'd just let her have her moment. This young woman is so accomplished and lovely that the shoes aren't likely to matter, except to her, in the long run, and I wouldn't want to rain on a choice as inconsequential as "ugly" shoes. :hi:
