Why do they bother with halftime show musical extravaganzas?
And I use that term loosely. For real, sports and music (especially rock and roll -- not that the Black Eyes Peas are rock) have NOTHING in common. The SB halftime shows get suckier every year.

That's what marching bands are for.

1. I wish they'd go with Drum & Bugle Corps
Professional marching bands for professional sports :D

2. Because in the early 90s the Fox sketch show In Living Color did counter-programming at halftime
They broadcast a live episode with a counter at the bottom of the screen telling people when the game was back on.

Enough people watched that the suits at the NFL got nervous and made sure it wouldn't happen again.

3. And they should play on real grass. And to hell with instant replay!

6. Nah, I like instant replay.
Refs can bungle a call and blow the whole game.

4. So people have something to whine about later, I guess.
I don't think the shows have gotten suckier. I think they are all about equal. I liked the show better this time just because the performers weren't barely animated cadavers. The only thing that ruined it was the horrible sound engineering that miced their voices and not the music, since with modern artists like the Black Eyed Peas the voices are just one part of the production. The rest of the show was fun.

I'm surprised liberals didn't like it more, since during the show I thought at points it was practically a war protest. "Where is the love?" was an anti-war, anti-Bush song from 2003, performed while Bush was sitting in a box at the stadium. That's pretty classic.

The only half-time show I've ever felt was memorable at all was Michael Jackson's. Prince was good, Tom Petty was good. Most of them I just have on in the background.

5. ah, it would be more fun with some of those great Southern
marching bands! Or Pilobilus or Cirque de Soleil, or something.
