1. I think that to be a queen, there has to be a blood line
Edited on Tue Nov-16-10 04:53 PM by MrScorpio
So she'd be a princess and the King's consort

Prince Phillip is the Queen's consort and so on

2. According to Wikipedia:
Queen of England may refer to:

Any of the female monarchs of England
Any wife of a male monarch of England who functioned as his official consort during his reign

4. Well, that's pretty damned sexist
Looks like the male official consorts are getting the short end of the stick.

6. My friend, complaining about the sexism of royalty kinda misses the point
These people literally think that they are ordained to be better people than the rest of humanity and it is the job of all of us peons to give them money.

They are parasite is every sense of the word.

7. That was pretty much a lame joke
I envision a future Queen Kate to do nothing more than sitting on her throne eating bon-bons all day long, pining for the days when she actually had privacy.

21. Couldn't agree more
When I was younger, I wondered if they ever questioned their existence, now I know. What is even stupider, are the hangers-on. I Saw the royalty thing, in China and in England and it couldn't be more disgusting.

27. +1
The whole royalty thing is an utter joke, and disgrace as well. But to be nice, and superficial, the young lady is very beautiful.

10. No, it works the same way for the men - if the royal bloodline is through the woman,
then the husband would be Prince, not King, such as current Queen Liz's (now dead) husband.

among the British Royals.

23. Actually, a queen regnant can grant her husband the Crown Matrimonial.
With parliament's approval, he would be king and be co-monarch - William III and Mary II.

24. They didn't do that with Victoria's Albert
because he was foreign born. There was no way Parliament would go for it. So his title was Prince Consort. I don't know if they considered it for Prince Consort Philip or not.

My one gush about this situation: William gave her his mother's engagement ring. So sweet!

26. Yes, Albert's foreign born status was an important factor.
Perhaps the most important consideration concerning a dual monarchy is the possibility that he'll outlive her as Wm III did.

As for Phil, word is it was considered for a nanosecond, then dropped. QM Elizabeth loathed the Mountbattens and Phil is an arrogant asshole.

I suspect the engagement ring will be given to each bride of a future PofW.

she won't be in line for that at all...her kids will be, though.

8. She'd (eventually) be queen consort
If/when William becomes king. Princess of Wales (among other of his titles) until then as his wife.

11. I think this pair have a better chance than Charles & Diana ever had
Edited on Tue Nov-16-10 05:38 PM by LynneSin
This was pretty much Prince Williams first love and they were friends long before they became romantic together. (They shared a flat at college along with other classmates).

Prince Charles was a bit of a playboy in his early years and honestly, it seems like Diana was some random pick from eligible single women. Charles never had the established relationship with Diana that William has with Kate.

Also, since Will and Kate went public with their relationship a few years back, Kate has had years now dealing with the intense public scrutiny that goes along with dating someone who would be the next King of England. No one had a clue who Diana was until she became engaged to Charles, so she pretty much was thrusted into the limelight with no preparation whatsoever.

Vanity Fair had a really great article about Will & Kate's engagement and for Will he was smart and said he would not marry until 28-30. He really wanted to make sure not only that Kate was the one but that she was comfortable with being in the public limelight.

I wish them the best!

12. Assuming that we still have a monarchy by then, probably.
Edited on Tue Nov-16-10 06:20 PM by LeftishBrit
He is next in line to the throne after his father Prince Charles; and if/when he is King, his wife will be Queen. But (a) the recent Royals don't have a terribly strong record for *staying* married to their first spouse; and (b) while I'm fairly sure that Britain will keep the Monarchy as long as Liz is Queen, I'm less sure what will happen after she dies or abdicates.

25. I think the chances are 50/50
Charles would have to formally abdicate his position in succession for that to happen. Doing so and letting the crown go straight to William would probably be a popular move, considering that Will is liked and Camillia isn't.

13. If they marry and he becomes king, she will be queen consort.
Queen consort: wife of the king
Queen regnant: monarch in her own right, ie Elizabeth II
Queen mother: mother of the reigning monarch
Queen dowager: wife of the former monarch, but not mother of current.

If and if, she will have all the perks, but she can not reign herself. The most she might do is be a regent, ie hold the reins if the heir apparent is a minor.
