OK, listen to me...
If I can still smell your perfume/cologne on books twenty minutes after you put them in our book drop, you are overdoing it.

Why do people overdo perfume like that? I'd rather share our elevator with a bunch of unwashed teenagers back from football practice than someone wearing too much perfume/cologne.

1. I'm sensitive to a very few fragrances...
.
.
.
.
.
...though solid air fresheners seem to generically affect me.

.
.

.
Dizziness. Nausea. Headache.

At my last job, one of the women wore a fragrance that had those
effects on me. Wore a LOT of it.
.
.
.
.
.
.
When I told her and asked her to choose something different (or
nothing at all) for use at work, she became incensed -- going off
on a rant about her freedom and constitutional rights and besides --
and this is the point that seemed most important to her... IT WAS
VERY EXPENSIVE!!!!!

.
.
.
.
.
I ended up having to go to HR to get it to stop.
.
.
.
.
.
It was originally unintentional, but once she realized that it was
physically harming someone -- it became intentionally assaultive
to continue.

2. I see no difference between too much perfume/cologne
and secondhand cigarette smoke with regards to the nauseating effect. I've had enough restaurant dinners ruined by someone's overdone perfume and/or cologne.

The rule I've always heard is "If you can smell it, then that's too much."

4. Just like teens who load on the Axe body spray.
If I can smell you from the other side of the block, you're overdoing it.

5. My favorite is when I'm out walking or biking and a car drives by leaving...
... a cloud of perfume in its wake that lingers for several moments. Another is when you're at the bank drive-up and you open the empty canister and strong perfume wafts out.
Reminds me of that Seinfeld BO episode--- "It's the Beast!"

6. They can't smell it
They may be smokers or they may be getting older and have lost some of their sense of smell. And people who wear a lot of perfume/cologne develop a kind of "blind spot", olfactorally (is that a word? it is now ;) ). They can't smell it anymore because they use it all the time. I did that in college with a scent I liked, and even though nobody told me whether I was overdoing it or not, I quit "cold turkey" one day, and after I had been off it for a while, I was horrified to think about how heavily I had been using it.

Now I'm highly sensitive to overdone scents. I have a cousin-in-law whom I love dearly, but she reeks (and it's not even a nice perfume). And don't get me started on Axe. :puke:
