1. My dear Lionel Mandrake!
Wow, this is one terrific song! I have heard it before, but not in ages...

Thank you!

Was Art Tatum the one who said "God is in the house tonight"?

:hi:

5. Thanks for sharing your reaction to the music.
More people need to hear this. Especially young people and pianists.

Besides Tatum's pyrotechnics, there are also fine solos by guitarist Tiny Grimes and bassist/vocalist Slam Stewart.

Did you notice the picture of Liszt during the quotation?

6. Here is another great performance of "Dark Eyes"
I discovered accidentally on Youtube

a great live acoustic jazz jam.

Tribute to Django Rinehardt in New York, Birdland, to be exact.

7. Multiple guitars, accordion, piano, clarinet, etc.
That's a lot of musicians. They are good individually, but I think fewer would have been better.

Just my preference.

8. 3/4 0r 4/4 Time?
Most versions of "Dark Eyes" are in 4/4 time (like a march). But the original tune was in 3/4 time (like a waltz). In fact, it was called "Valse Hommage".
