10. As long as no one reads it, they ought to add some spice to the strip.
Like maybe Mary has a Pulp Fiction type gimp in her basement.

8. Right. It's antithetical to the medium.
As much as I agree with him, I have the same observation about Tom Tomorrow's This Modern world. Toles, OTOH, usually nails it with an economy of words.

12. "Ack! I'm sad because (man issue/bought swimsuit/job). Must eat ice cream!! Ack! Now I'm fat!"
There - 34 years of that miserable crap summed up in fewer words than that bloviating artless idiot used in any one strip.

16. Yeah who wants to listen to the frustrations of a modern working single woman!
All those stupid bleeps should just keep their mouths shut! :sarcasm:

20. Oh, please.
if that's what you took from my post, you should try harder.

Criticism of a hack cartoonist does not equal criticism of a demographic of humanity.

22. The thing is, Cathy comics are puke-inducing - they don't really speak to my frustrations
as a working single woman, I can tell you that. I always felt like Cathy comics trivialized the frustrations of working women.

13. When I read that, my hair stood up and little beads of sweat flew off my head!
Maybe now my paper can carry "Pearls Before Swine." Which they should have done a long time ago. Do we really need to still carry Peanuts 10+ years after Charles Schultz's death? Really?

15. geezus. Lots of haters here.
For ALOT of working women like me, Cathy was always a good strip because it was so identifiable- the perpetually single women trying to succeed in both life and work. But I guess insight about societies stereotypes of how women should look and act is now considered "tripe trash". :eyes:

17. Try "Freefall"
A working woman in there, Florence Ambrose is the engineer on a spaceship owned by an alien who is a con man, thief, pickpocket, and cheat.
But he's not THAT bad... :-)

21. I always like reading all the comics, even the ones others scoff as being "lame"
And yes, that even includes Family Circus, and yes I do agree that Family Circus is lame. But I still read it, out of habit.

I don't know what it is, but reading the comics is one way that I am able to still hold on to a bit of my childhood. Most of them I don't laugh out loud at, but a few of them I do. (I love how Doonesbury skewers Sarah Palin as a talking doll!)

But as I mentioned above, now that Cathy is on its way out, I would love for my paper to start carrying Pearls Before Swine. That's one of the strips that I do laugh out loud for.

25. The problem isn't the topics
it's the lack of humor, or creativity. Cathy was the same joke, over and over, for decades. It had its moments, but for the most part was just repetitive. Saying something sucks doesn't necessarily mean that the TOPIC sucks

Now it's about as relevant as Beetle Bailey.
