Later, in his dream sequence with Maude, one of the nihilists is coming after him with that same giant pair. Perfect use of the subconscious.

Or, the last time Donny rolls, he doesn't get a strike. The last pin just wobbles ominously, and he looks crushed. Foreshadowing at its most subtle.
