What do you think of this band?
Group is called Holy Water Buffalo. They're a local band based here in Utah. They won our local "Battle of the Bands" last summer and they did their first music video:

Here's one of their more rocking tunes:

I think they have some potential. What do you think?

1. Any opinions? Positive or negative?
Also, feel free to leave comments on the YouTube page.

2. That's not too bad.
They have a nice honest sound to them. Hard for me to really judge as I tend to listen to very extreme stuff (even the mellow stuff I dig is out there), so this is not my usual fare. But if I was hanging with a friend and they put this stuff on I certainly wouldn't complain. I've heard way worse than this, and I can see why they won a Battle of the Bands competition.

Reminds me a little of a stripped down version of the band Akron/Family, or a less metal version of the 80's band Pentagram (especially the jamming part of that second video). They have almost a throw back type of sound. Just plug in your instruments and play type of stuff, which is always a plus. I give it a thumbs up.

3. They said one of their main influences is the Grateful Dead.
They're a bit more hippy-trippy than my usual fare, but I could see these fellers going somewhere, if they caught a few breaks.

I'll have to check out the bands you mentioned. I'm not familiar with either of them.

4. I can totally hear the Dead influence.
And if you think they're trippy, look out for the ones I mentioned.... :)

These connections will seem tenuous to you, most likely. But I hear the connection.

Here's Akron/Family (they're a bunch of hippies, and I mean that in the best way)...

And Pentagram...

The jamming part in that second vid reminded me a lot of the sound Pentagram had. The song structure and overall attitude is different, but this and Akron/Family were what came to mind listening to these guys.
