Here we are in May 1985. Married in the home of friends (second time around for both of us).
This is the only photo we have left of our wedding as our wedding album was destroyed in the fire
three years ago.

1. I'm sorry you lost your album in a fire.
Those pics are truly irreplaceable.

I was married in 1973 - 37 years ago this week. I was too young to get married, but my parents put a lot of pressure on me not to "live in sin" so it seemed like the right thing to do. It was a modest wedding held early in the day and followed by a brunch for close friends and family. We honeymooned by taking a long road trip with very limited funds. Someone spotted the "just married" sign on the car and paid our toll on the Oakland Bay Bridge. Have tried to pay that act of kindness forward many times.

Anyhow, 37 years later we're still together and raising a teenager who was born just in time to help us celebrate our 20th anniversary. She's the light of our lives and makes it all worthwhile.

I have no idea where the years went. We had a small but formal wedding with about 75 guests, mostly family. My aunt made my wedding gown. :)

They always say you should marry your best friend.

Here's some context, although I don't believe this picture needs any.

13. Sadly, we have no wedding photos to share, as I married a young Socialist
and we, together in our poverty and youthful superiority, eschewed such capitalist trappings as wedding photography, a gown which would have admirably showcased my once-magnificent cleavage, and a suit that would have highlighted Call Me Wesley's once-narrow waist and still-broad manly shoulders.

If we had it to do over, with the stuff we have today, I would have hand typed on manual typewriters wedding invitations to no fewer than 1,000 capitalist guests, mounted our various Polaroid cameras on tripods and recorded for posterity my once-gravity-defying cleavage and Call Me Wesley's once narrow waist, and started a Lounge thread about it all.

We had a small wedding of just family and close friends. It was outdoors at my sister's house. My mom did my flowers and she and my sisters did all the cooking, except for the cake. It was a fabulous day weatherwise and a beautiful wedding. We rented a white canopy, some tables and chairs. The whole shebang was around $1500. He's still the love of my life and I never want to be without him. :D

We didn't have a photographer, just scattered around those little disposable cameras for the guests to take pictures themselves and then developed them all. So the pics aren't really technically great but good enough to capture all the memories.

I'm so very sorry to hear about your wedding photos. That must have really broken your heart.

Poor Bonnie! This was in New Orleans, in June of 1995. It was hot even by NOLA standards (about 98), and I think it that, along with the lack of sleep and general excitement, finally caught up with her.

The ironic thing is that Bonnie was one of the few people at the wedding who rarely drinks. My groomsmen singlehandedly paid for the retirement of the entire staff at Pat O'Brien's and Abita Brewery.

56. ok, here are some
My wife is Chinese, and tradition is that the couple gets formal pictures taken before the wedding, so they can give them out at the wedding... however, because of timing issues around 9/11, we didn't actually do this until after we got married.

61. My wife wore several different outfits
that day, and I wore 3 or 4. I'd post more pics, but that's the only one in my photobucket account right now.

60. You might appreciate this guy's blog...
http://www.rahoi.com/2006/03/may-i-take-your-order/

It's been inactive for a while, but it
is my favorite.

His Engrish stuff is funny, but his
life with his Chinese relatives is
hilarious.

Neither one of us is religious, but one time she was angry at something and said, "Jesus Crisis" instead of Jesus Christ. I think she has heard Jesus Christ as a curse/swear at work, so tried to use it once in another situation. I almost never swear, so I'm sure she didn't pick it up from me.

63. Sorry to hear about the fire :(
:(

We didn't have a church wedding or anything like that. we were married in the Creek County OK courthouse with a couple of cops for witnesses. Her sister and mother were fussing over the the wedding and it started a squabble. We didn't have much money at all so we just ran off and got married by a judge. No wedding pictures of course, but here's a picture of us from right around the time we were married, this was taken in early '92.

64. Alley and I just before drinking out of our wedding vase and sealing the deal..

I really liked my wedding, out doors on an ocean bluff, native traditions, mexican food, cupcakes for a wedding cake, open bar for friends and family.

Out of all the weddings I've attended, if I was a guest I would rate mine as the best.

70. Matchmaker, matchmaker, make me a match...
Edited on Mon Aug-02-10 04:08 PM by mnhtnbb
Not far off from how I met hubby.

In the early 80's, in Los Angeles, there was a guy, along with his sister and mother (the original
yenta) who started a video dating service called "Great Expectations". Yep. That's how we met.
I have a good friend whom I also persuaded to join, and she's been married for 20 some years
now, too, to the man she met through the service.

Today, it's computer matchmaking. Go for it!

87. My brother invited my wife and me to our own wedding
In December 1981, my brother caught up with me by phone in Boston and asked if I wanted to be
best man at his wedding the following April. I said sure, and said I would see if my (then-)
girlfriend could manage to take off work in Germany and fly over for it.

My brother said, well, if we were both going to be there, we might as well join in the fun.
My wife and I already had such hectic schedules that we never seemed to find the time to
plan a wedding. So, if someone else were to do it for us, who was gonna turn THAT down?

I called over to Germany and told her my brother and his girlfriend (whom my wife already knew)
were getting married next April, and asked if she thought she could get away. She said she would
definitely make time to be there. I then told her of his suggestion for a double wedding. She
said the German equivalent of "sure, works for me."

Not the most romantic of proposals, but we had already been together for over 7 years by then, too.

That was in 1982. Tempus fugit.

The wedding looked like the UN, and the Washington press had unofficially dubbed it the Axis wedding
(they never dared say that in print) since my brother's wife was from Japan and my wife was from Germany.

My wife and her dad right before the ceremony, one of my favorite pics of her:

And afterward, when the formal stuff was done with:

One result was a pair of the most unlikely-looking cousins you can imagine, too:
