What's your favorite music genre?
For me, it's the Blues. Delta Blues, Country Blues, it doesn't matter. Six string, twelve string, electric... I love it all. From Robert Johnson to Stevie Ray to Robert Cray to Bonnie Raitt to Susan Tedeschi to Marcia Ball, nothing touches my soul more than good Blues.

1. Electronic, leaning into New Age (the good stuff)
Although in the last couple of years I listen mostly to Middle Eastern music, like Natacha Atlas, Chemirani Trio, Solace, and BellyFuse (Jehan). New Age is getting Middle Eastern influences now, too, but there's still Amesthystium, Mars Lasar, Deuter, Jonathan Goldman and Mike Oldfield (I don't consider Oldfield "new age" but the music labels do...)

I still listen to Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream but also Bill Nelson as he utilizes a lot of electronic sounds in his work :)

2. Metal. The only genre that counts, in the end.
Metallica is Beatles to the next level.

Although, jazz is something entirely in and of itself.

Rap sucks. I'm sorry, but it just does.

Piano jazz. Take Five. Switching from Metallica to that right now..

6. Black metal, but I love many other genres as well.
BM, in all it's various styles, makes up about 40% of what I listen to, which is a lot.

7. Metal for me
Lately, I find myself listening to: Opeth, Mastodon, Down, Devin Townsend, High On Fire. The new Nevermore is starting to grow on me.

I'm a fan of Hard Rock (huge Rush and Led Zeppelin fan), "Classic" Rock (love the Beatles), a fair amount of Punk/Hardcore, Blues and some Classical.

I love the blues, but I also include them in the wider genre of Americana/Roots.

Besides classical music on occasion, that is all I care to listen to. :hi:

11. blues is my favorite, and moves me still, but I love any type of music
with an interesting guitar in it somewhere...I have been playing or at least goofing on a guitar since about age 12 or so...played in bands starting at age 15. I own 6 electric guitars and 2 basses, several acoustics and an old 12 string.

I love Willie McTell, RL Johnson, Slim Harpo, Howling Wolf (Hubert Sumlin is PLAYING A CONCERT in the Poconos this weekend, IIRC!!! In his 80's!) Many many more...

I love Chuck Berry, the Stones, the Ramones, the Sex Pistols (one of my all time favorite players - Steve Jones!) Many many more here, too...

I just love music, and I can usually find something interesting in any type of music if I listen to it carefully.

I had to stop that idea due to my Mom and her tests and doctors visits and such. Still thinking about Hornings though, depends on what the docs say this week.

But I am going to Telluride for Phish and to Red Rocks for FURTHUR later....

16. no favorites
I like all kinds and as long as it is mixed up and very diverse I can even handle the few things I don't really like (pop, classical, new country)

especially love guitars and guitar like instruments from all over the world

19. oldies, pop, blues, new age, I like most music except for country
I despise country music. Everyone is dying, divorced, or being preachy about appreciating what you have. Then there is big n rich, country music and rap should never cross planes.

20. Rock and pop from 1964 to 1974
but I also like the big band era, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, etc. And some jazz (Kind of Blue, etc.) I like a lot of Gershwin stuff, Stravinsky, Debussy, Grieg, and of course Beethoven. Not a fan of country, rap, hip-hop, and most stuff that comes out these days. As my Mom said, "I don't want any sick woman singers."

That was one description given to Leo Kottke's styler of 12 string guitar, although
it could also be described as musical wizardry, as in Harry Potter style.
