What is it with pregnancy pictures?
Exhibit A -
http://awkwardfamilyphotos.com/category/photos/pregnancy/

I understand wanting photos of the important moments of your life - hell, I have pics of myself when I was pregnant. But this whole thing of artfully posing together in a studio seems really weird to me. They're so obviously photos that are meant to share - one of them is even exhibited as a Christmas card!

I mean, my pregnancies were cool to me and my immediate family but they weren't earthshattering events for the rest of the world. It is, after all, a fairly routine experience in the grand scheme of things - after all, where did all these people come from anyway?

I don't know - it just seems to me to be one more way in which people seem to think that the events of their lives are so incredibly important, that the rest of the world simply must want to see their pics/videos/blogs/whatever.

And no (obligatory disclaimer before anyone points it out for me), it harms nobody and it's not my business what other people choose to do - I just find it kind of odd.

3. Oh, I don't know -
I'd say that the couple with the turkey and the chick with the watermelon and handgun where real winners - if you know what I mean.

2. B-b-b-but if some photographers didn't offer a pregnancy package
they would have fewer photo sessions to do, therefore less work, and fewer photographers would be able to work, and there would be more unemployment!1!1!

We need even more procreative ways to make money!1!

6. I never did the pics, but I can understand it
Pregnancy is weird. Logically you know it's something many women all over the world throughout history have experienced, but when it's you, it's pretty intense. Everything changes...your body, your emotions, your sense of responsibility, relationships with friends and family (for better or worse).

Your entire being is in a state of creation and in between the trips to the bathroom, the morning sickness, and the karate kicks to your internal organs, the process can feel artistic. I think that's why people tend to go over the top cheesy with their pregger photos.

Just a theory though. I have no idea what the people in your link were thinking.

8. If there were anything remotely artist about those photos, I'd understand.
But since there's not, I don't.

15. unfortunately there a lot of people out there with no artistic ability
who knows what was going through their heads at the time they took a photo with the tire. I'm hoping it's some sort of cute inside joke, but I really can't tell.

9. One good thing, comparing the 60s to today.
When I was a young child in the early 60s, it was considered rude and crass to even use the word 'pregnant' in public. My daughter is expecting her first baby this September. She and her husband went to the beach for a vacation this spring, and she sent photos of her rather large self in a bikini. She's an athlete, so she looks very, very good. My thoughts are how healthy this new approach is for women today, instead of the shame, even for a married woman, to use the very word pregnant.
Today's approach is better for mom, baby, and society.

13. And even before then.
There was a time when pregnant women were not permitted to be seen in polite society. They didn't attend the local social gatherings of any kind. Their women friends had to come visit them. Talk about going stir crazy!

12. There are photo places all over the malls here that cater
to pregnant women, women who are not pregnant and want to show off their breasts and buttocks for the whole family to see (see Heidi Klum and Seal) naked babies, men with no shirts on, etc. I just walk on by and get a laugh out of it. Everybody thinks they are somehow special. Who am I to disabuse them of such vainglorious beliefs?

17. The tire pic is deliciously random
But the one in the tree brings so many questions to mind. Mainly... WHY!? But also, where are the pics of her either getting up there or getting down? They'd probably be far more entertaining.

And what is it supposed to convey? Pregnant woman basking on a tree branch - I just can't wrap my head around it. Is the tree supposed to represent some sort of phallic symbol? Is it indicative of the upward journey to enlightenment? Is it a bridge back to our simian heritage?

Was it the photographer's idea? If she'd fallen out of the tree and gone into premature labor, would he be liable? Did they sign a disclaimer?

Did she climb the tree barefoot or did she take her shoes off once she was up there? Again, why?

The kicker to it all is that she doesn't look at all comfortable. She's sort of perched up there, with her toes clinging to the branches for dear life with an expression that speaks of clenched teeth and forced smile.

18. I think it's him seperating himself from the woman and child
"I am man and I love cars and my freedom." Nothing is going to take him away from that. He's looking upon her as a cute but sullied idiot. He has no intention of being faithful to her. He never was. I hate to see how that poor child makes it out of a life with this pair as parents.

-Just my take
