Anyone know anything about the Family Medical Leave Act?
Edited on Tue Jun-29-10 11:49 AM by Bertha Venation
The way I understand it, it protects you from losing your job. The way my sister understands it, not only does it protect you from losing your job, but it protects you from your employer putting negative actions/remarks in your personnel file for time lost while under FMLA. For example, taking time off without pay here is a very serious no-no, and gets you a negative action report. According to my sister, my employer is forbidden to do that if I'm under FMLA.

Anyone?

I was going to post this on the Labor board but it doesn't seem like the place I'd get an answer. I'll cross-post in GD.

1. must have over 50 employees, you there at least one year full time,
cannot put any adverse ANYTHING ANYWHERE or retaliate at all, can demand doctor's letter. Google FMLA. Pretty straightforward. Your employer is probably in violation.

2. It protects you up to 180 days a year
This has been in effect since the Clinton administration. Not getting paid may suck, but losing your job because you are battling a serious illness would suck more. The Act provides job protection for people when they need it the most.

I strongly recommend you consult your Human Resource representative to determine how to get approved for it. You can't just take off from work and expect to be protected. There are still hoops to jump through.
