I neglected my compost and now
cantaloupes and tomato plants are growing in it.

Good intentions gone awry, or blessing in disguise?

1. You can't go wrong with cantaloupes and tommytoes
Throw some lettuce and dressing in there and you have summertime delight. That's the first time I've used the word "delight" on DU, btw.

5. Tomato and curcubit family seeds always sprout in my compost bin.
If I only knew which varieties they were I'd transplant them. The one time I tried it all of the volunteers were pear tomatoes or zucchini.

7. My tomatoes volunteers invariably revert back to those wicked cherry tomato things
Pumpkins are they only plants I invest time in transplanting from compost volunteers. Those, and wine grape volunteers. Sauvignon blanc does well in my area and I would make fine wine if I could keep the birds away.

8. birds love cherries
the birds got every one of them this year (bings) and not enough sour cherries from a friends house to even make jelly.

oh well , the birds gotta eat too!

Maybe my friend will have a bumper crop of grapes and feel sorry for poor grape-less me:shrug:

9. That happened to me with potato plants once
Tried to transplant the little buggers and they made some impressive tops. No taters though.

into the pile if it's something you don't want. :)

13. I had a tiny red truck that I lost in the compost when I was about 10. I still think I one day will
find that truck. We don't even own the property it is on anymore.
