It's time to roll (pics)
This

Plus this

Equals this

I found a good company to lease to and they are in the process of checking me out as far as work history and stuff like that goes. They said they were just waiting for confirmation from my last 2 employers and then I could come in for orientation. It's pretty much a lock.

I'm still not completely sure I'm going to do this, but I'd say I'm about 90% on it. I still have to buy the equipment, but I'm pretty much a lock on that, too. Good credit, got the down payment, have previous owner/operator experience, and I've done business in the past with the people who have the trailer.

It's just a matter of signing the dotted line and putting things in order here at the house. Then I will be a long haul driver once again as well as an owner operator. When I got into trucking it quickly became my dream to own a trucking company one day. It didn't work out back then and it probably won't now, but I think I can do alright with just one truck. It will be more fun and challenging than what I'm doing now, too.

I came in off the road about 4 years ago with thoughts of settling down and starting a family. It hasn't worked out and I'm closing in on 38. Who knows? Maybe I'll find a crazy lady out on the road who would like to ride along with me. :)

2. My dear Tobin!
Good for you! There's nothing quite like having a plan and then having the guts to implement it!

I hope you'll find that crazy lady...

And I know I'll be looking forward to more Stories From the Road...

Stay safe, sweetie!

3. Are you kidding me?!?!?!?!?
.
One of us... with a dream come true within reach?
.
.
.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
.
.
.
You've made ME feel really good this morning!
.
.
.
.
One cautionary word:
.
.
.
I drove from PA to MO to visit with friends and arrived around 3 AM --
didn't want to wake up my friends and didn't want to get a motel
room for just several hours, so I crashed in a truck stop in front of
the outside rest rooms.
.
Um... you probably know where this is headed.
.
.
.
.
It's OK to associate with us Lounge Lizards, but...
.
.
.
.
.
STAY AWAY FROM THOSE LOT LIZARDS!!!!!

.
.
.
Good luck!!! And good for you!!!

If I was ever going to hire some commercial company, I'd do it out in Nevada where it's legal. I'm a law abidin' citizen, dammit. :)

4. Congratulations, Tobin!
I don't think the lady would have to be crazy. Those long haul truck cabins look pretty cozy to me. AND you can see the world!
All the best..

16. Yes-there certainly may be
-'a sweet and crazy lady' willing to ride alongside. But in the meantime, have you given any thought to maybe rescuing a shelter dog? They make great companions and would probably love to join you!

Good luck on the road ahead! I'm very happy for you! :hi:

17. I love dogs, but I wouldn't want to live with and care for one out on the road
A lot of drivers do, though, and I've heard a lot of stories about them adopting the critters from shelters or actually as strays. That's the way I would do it if I were to have a road dog. :)

22. one of the sweetest dogs i ever met was a road dog. a doberman.
that guy barely had to think something and that dog did it. she was such a happy thing, too. all she wanted in life was to sit by her daddy. he said she didn't even really like to stick her head out the window, because she had to get to far away from him.

congratulations there, friend. many happy miles.

12. I haven't bought it yet, but there's a very good chance that I will
I will know for sure whether I've got the ok or not to lease on with the company I want to later on today. I'm waiting on that first before I do anything else. Then I will have to give two weeks notice at my current job and purchase the truck and trailer for my new one. It might be another month, but I might get on the road sooner than that.

I will probably actually post more with the new job. I will have my laptop and a broadband cellular connection. :)

Sounds like a good plan.

Will the company give you the contracts what to haul? Or do you have to search for that yourself?

You better not drive and post ;)

14. I can barely drive and chew bubble gum at the same time
You won't see me with my computer on the steering wheel. Believe it or not I have seen that. :scared:

The company I'm going to lease to is what's called an LTL company- Less Than Truckload. I will have loads of their freight originating from Ohio. Once I get to my destination city I will deliver all of the freight and either drive to one of their terminals for another LTL haul, or if they are too far away for that I will get a backhaul from an outside source.

All of the billing is handled by the company. I do everything else.

23. Ah, I do like hearing your stories
On the road or not, I look forward to hearing many more! Glad to hear about your upcoming adventures - of course you're a lock. And a lady wouldn't have to be crazy to ride along with you - you're a sweet guy and any gal would be lucky to have you beside her. You're still a young-un, ya know!

Best of luck, and I look forward to reading more about what happens. :)
