I posted this in the Film group but I don't think many people go there regularly.
The Shining in HD!
Imagine all the details! Kubrick was a master of the details, every picture on every wall, every book in every bookcase, every item in every fridge, cabinet, storage room, etc. Stuff you can't see without it being hi def (trust me, I've looked).
Kubrick's approach to his films, and in particular this one, was to create moods that the viewer could not trace back to anything specific, could not really identify, and his exquisite use of set design, of what so many confuse as "continuity errors" to achieve this effect, is unparalleled.
So, it wouldn't surprise me that even in the age before HD, when this film was shot, that Kubrick would still have spent considerable time and effort on the smallest of details, even knowing that they could never be seen by the casual viewer (or indeed, any viewer without HD).
And they are all clues as to what he intended the film to mean. A treasure trove.
So, if you have an HDTV and are a Kubrick fan, this is a MUST SEE (and DVR).
