OK, ladies. S'plain women's clothing sizes to me?
I've been married to Miz t. for 42 years and I still can't figure it out.
Just look at this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/US_standard_clothing_size#Women.27s_sizes

Misses, Juniors, Petites, Miss Petites, etc., ad infinitum?
jeez
:eyes:

Guy's pants go by waist size.
Period.
Suits...pretty much the same.
Dress shirts go by sleeve and collar size.
Pretty straightforward.

Sport shirts are just S, M, L, XL, XXL, etc.
Fairly easy to estimate.

Women?
A morass of uncomprehensible mish-mash.
I give up.
Anybody got a cheat sheet?

4. The 2,4,6,8
Thing is just plain old annoying.
But the Juniors: Generally for less curvy (teenage) people, and usually have a 1,3,5 size thing instead of a 2,4,6. Petites just means you have a smaller inseam/height then average.
Misses is basically the same, but usually with a 2,4,6 sizing "method" and with more "mature" so to speak body.

Shirts: it goes by length and bust size.

Here's a cheat sheet of sorts: http://www.eddiebauer.com/custserv/custserv.jsp?sectionId=102&subId=303

It's stupid. So very stupid.

5. Here's what I think the main reason is:
NO woman wants to wear a "LARGE".
Forget about XL.

8. Oh yes
But I do know women who just do not care.
I'm one who does. I'm freakishly large (not because I'm lazy and a food-lover) I'm just tall and big boned. According to any BMI chart I'm overweight, but the doctors say I'm fine for my bone structure and height. But I hate shopping just because I have to get "large" because everything else is too short. And then everyone giggles at me as they are buying their 00 skinny jeans.

The clothes sizing system just needs to die.

6. This has a complicated history, wrapped up in the struggle of wimmins against patriarchy
See, wimmins couldn't fight back directly against raw patriarchy, cuz Mr. Patriarchal Macho had the law and the suits of armor on his side, so they had to devise this clever culture of indirectly wrapping Mr. Patriarchal Macho around their little fingers, in which they had the advantage that Mr. Patriarchal Macho was often as charmed into stupidity by their little fingers as by anything else. Thejn the Industrial Revolution came along. The guys would go to shop, and if the pants legs were, like, three feet too long, their reaction would be, Hey, I'm buyin them anyway, cuz I've always worn a size 38. But when the women went into shop, they'd be, like, Hey, it doesn't fit and if it fit they'd say Well, I like it, but haven't you got it in a size 2? So the bourgeois English shopkeepers all just stuck random size labels on all the women's clothes, and the women got the extra fun of going home to perplex their hubbies with women's clothing sizes. It's all very logical when you think about it the right way

10. Yeah, see even the S, M, L, XL, etc sizes need to go IMO.
Half of the men's shirts out there that are XL are made for overweight people. The other half are made for people who have broad shoulders and long torsos. There's no way to tell which is which until you try them on. I've found L shirts that were long enough for my torso and broad enough for my shoulders, when the XL of the same shirt was too narrow along the shoulders and too short along the torso. But it had plenty of extra room AROUND the middle. And I ain't exactly skinny.

11. Just don't ever buy clothing a size bigger than the woman wears.
We will never, ever forgive you. Best to buy something small and let us return it for what we really want. ;)
