I can see the Red Planet from my window!

I just tuned into the evening news to get a weather update. (I sure as hell didn't tune in to get informed!) The meteorologist showed a shot of the nighttime sky, with the camera focused on a gleaming red dot. The weatherman explained that it was the planet Mars, at which point the camera pulled back, showing the full moon off to the Red Planet's left.

I made a beeline for my living-room window and opened the blinds. Sure enough, I distinctly saw Mars off to the moon's right. I actually got a lump in my throat! In fact, I stared up at the Red Planet so intently, I ended up missing the damned forecast!

It's experiences like this that serve as a poignant reminder that the six billion of us who inhabit the earth are but one small speck in this infinite unverse. It certainly helps me keep things in perspective!

1. Last night it was burning red
I would have gone to the desert to see the star showers if it had been a bit less bright of a moon. IT's shooting star season!

5. I was looking at Wed. Morning...
...through my telescope. Very nice. If you have an observatory or astronomy club in your area, get on over there and take a good look.

6. I just home from a "Mars" party!
First time I've seen the fiery red Planet! Everybody was talkin' about it and now I got to see it, too! Right next to the big ass Moon! And MaryAnn saw a shootin' star!

Went out in the Country and we had a fire outside and a late potluck from the garden. It was a cool way to spend a birthday! :-)

7. I just saw it when I went out for a smoke
first clear night in NC in WEEKS.

Um, it is that reddish thing kinda to the right of the moon, right?
