The boredom is getting a bit repetitive.
Just not that much interesting going on.

So what would make life interesting, fun, and exciting.

And what would have to be done to reach that point.

And could that be done without compromising ideas.

And so life is boring.

1. The only time I'm really bored is on Saturday nights
I work third shift, so about the time I'm ready to roll on Saturday night everyone is sleeping off their alcohol and everything is closing down except for the corner store.

So I've decided to do one of two things. I'm either going to take an internet correspondence course, or I'm going to go to the temp agency and see if I can pick up some work on third shift on Saturday nights. I'm not usually doing anything better with my time. Might as well make a few extra bucks.

2. I have thought about that, I think I will right an outline for a story.

Sort of an Outer limits type story.

"The joys of a sim."

Set in a college lecture haul, science room, a few computers on one set of walls, and an auditorium where the students sit, the class is full of eager graduate students and a teacher is just walking in to say hello to attentive students.

A few say hello, he sets his briefcase down making a little light hearted small talk about the big project of the year.

"Some of you have been spending alot of your off hours working on our project, why do you find it so interesting."

A girl response, "they are are friends.".

Another almost correcting but with thought replies, "I would say more like our children"

The teacher looking to the simulation, in thought, replies, "yes the results have even surprised me." After a short moment of silence, he adds, but some of you have been taking advantage of how you can treat them.

A person from the back adds in, "But all free will rules, and only internal modifications to the simulation are still in place, so if they do anything it is there choice"

The teacher stepping forward seriously, "but you might give them those ideas, and add harm to there lives, do you take joy in that? Is it the power? Do you enjoy them suffering"

A stillness comes over the class from the intensity of the teachers stare. He simply says, will you remember that when someone shows you no empathy?" A touch of sadness, not even scolding, just trying to do what he does and teach.

From the back of the room the doors crash open, in running a wild eyed student, neat in cloths, and appearance, almost too neat, but with that twitchyness of fervor, "This must stop, it is an affront to all that is good, he have no right to create life" He screams.

The startled class just watches as he leaps down the stairs to the front of the computer system slapping pulling what is obviously an explosive out of a bag and putting it on the front of the computer system.

In horror of the realization of what he is about to do, the class starts crying out," No stop, what are you doing"

Cut to Tv show intro.

(not going to type all this out, but just outline it abit)
The Teacher basically asked him to explain himself, and the crazy eyed student talks about how bad what they did it, while the students defend the actions of making the system.

a variety of back and forth on the ethics and spirituality of such a system begins as the teacher and students try to persuade him to stop what he is doing. Issues are if a person can have a child that is creating life, things like the advantages of the virtual world for resource purposes, and how the students have even taught their faiths to that world. Statements about if it was wrong why was it allowed to be created, and even ideas of how society itself is similar in structure to the complete algorithmic world created are discussed. A few good ideas in the discussion, but the main point is to define the caring the students have for the world, and the callousness of the wild eyed one. Even those that have treated the sim world wrong apologize and admit their wrong when the crazy eyed student tries to use them as an argument for the end of sim worlds.

So the students convince the Crazy Eyed Student (Ces) to let them say good bye. Tearfully they approach the interface monitors to talk with the sims. The teacher telling them not to let them know whats happening, for there own good. But as the students try to wish the best and say there goodbyes, the sims pick up something is wrong. They at first think the students are in some trouble, and try to offer some way to help, not knowing they are students in an outer world. But the students sadness and tears gives away it is more serious then that.

Knowing things are bad, the sim people begin at first to try and find the problems within there own societies, the mischievous students even try to help them set a few things right to try and sway the Ces. And while the students say there goodbyes in the background, the teacher tries to reason with the Ces, asking him to think of himself as one of the sims, and even when the sims show faith, faith of greater virtue and value then the Ces, in actions and thoughts, even then Ces sticks to what he thinks must be true. No sim world can exist, only the real world.

(Again this is just an outline, the actual dialog is make or break for it being both exciting and interesting.)

The last attempts of the teacher, "what if you were in there place" fails to reach the Ces, and while the students are crying, some pleading, some in prayer, in the background through the monitors, the sims do what ever they can that they think is causing the problems, many pray, others work to solve the problems that they also know are unjust, and fit into the complaints made by the Ces that said they were all evil. In the middle of that the Ces says it will end now and is about to push the button.

With a sad sigh, the teacher looks up a bit.

The Ces pushes the button.

Nothing happens. Literally nothing, even the very students around him are frozen in time unmoving. He looks around confused, he does not understand, then he seas the teacher walking out from behind the desk. "I really tried son, I tried to help you, but this world has rules of free will also, you had to be willing to accept that concept, because you can not, you can no longer stay.

At that moment, the CEs looks over and sees his body on the ground, and a security guard also frozen in time still with the muzzle flash of the gun.

Ces asked what does it mean.

The teacher says that he will be going to the real world, it was your free will choice.

The Ces phases into a damp tunnel, lines of a solid metalic wall, with many panels line one side of the tunnel. His cloths are a simple jumpsuit bland in color.

A man haggard walks up, carrying a small wooden bowl of gruel, are you hungry?

In shock, the Ces asked where he is, the other man explains that he is like Ces, sent there 1000s of years ago and that they are caretakers and make sure the machine is running and that the communities like theres have some food and warmth as they find what small resources the machine may need to make its own repairs.

Ces asked "1000s of years?"

The older man answers, "Yes, the machine does not believe in death, so we have nanobots that keep us healed and alive, and the machine gives us a bit of a purpose, to care for the world and each other. But we live here in these tunnels. We can't go above ground anymore, since the machine had to move the planet out of orbit of a nova sun, the exterior is to cold, so we live down here. The machine gets power from heat further down in the tunnel, altough it is as hot there as it is cold here.

Its not that bad, although we can't talk to the sims, we can occasional watch them, and even sometimes suggest ideas that could be passed on to them. But we need to be going, we have mushrooms to pick for tomorrow's meal."

Or something like that. Just first draft, need to work out the dialog, and make sure the surprises are foreshadowed and yet still a bit jaring.

Stay tuned for part 2, The Redemption of the Fire Jumpers.

*note that the story is just a moral tale, not my view of existence, so I don't put to much thought into it, it is just a story.

Redemption of the Fire jumpers.

Opening scene shows segments of previous episode.

after many years in the tunnels, Ces had found his pattern, he helped with the mushroom soup, and the mushroom bread mostly, not gathering materials in the coldest tunnels, nor the Smiths in the hotter areas. But he did not mind also delivering meals, to either area.

In his movements he began to notice a group moving within the main group. At night they would move off to gather or forge. When he noticed the older man he met on his first day Lens moving off with the group at times, he thought about asking.

The night that Lens returned harried pale and in shock, he decided to ask. The next morning, Lens looked a bit better, maybe just a bit tired, so Ces brought him some breakfast and asked, people arn't suppose to ask questions, people have there own tasks, and most go about it finding what joy they can, not bringing up what might be personal or difficult.

But Ces asked him. After a long silence Lens responded, "Are you doing ok?"
Ces hadn't thought about it, but realized he was ok and responded with a casual, shrug.
After much thought and inspection, Les spoke again, "we are helping some of the others that lost hope.", but we worry that some might think like them if everyone knows. Long ago many jumped into the lava trying to end it, there are many still alive down there.

(without typing the whole conversation, basically Lens explains what there group does.)

After some conversation, basically Lens commenting on some of how Ces had been showing a special quality in his deliveries, Lens explains what they do. And thinking he is stable.

Lens shows, what they are doing the next night, first he shows the cables they make. Then he takes them to the edge of the lava pits, and tells them what they do.

There are some that lose hope, and think they can end it by jumping into the lava pits, but the nanobots heal them faster then what it would take for them to die. They are in torment, the pain on Lens face is severe. He explains that there group goes after them, they are the fire jumpers. They don't want anyone else to know, because it could add suffering to think of such things, such loss, and hurt some that are already on the edge.

Lens tells him how they lost a jumper last night and pauses. He points to a man Ces knows, and says he is doing the jumping for him tonight and asks if Ces will help on the cables.

(sort of an action scene. short version)
Guys on the cable, time limit of how long the cable will last before burning through, and a jump scene where a guy goes in and tries to find a guy, and is pulled out, some cgi of the terrible effects. Then them helping the person, and how they bring him to a group to try to heal his mind that has been in torment so long.

While looking over the rescued man, Ces asked how they thought to do such a thing, Lens explains how they were taught by a man that was there many centuries ago. He had the idea after seeing a person jump into the lava. He figured how to make the cables, and was the first jumper.

Ces asked which man he is, looking around, very sad, Lens answers, he is not here, few talk about it, some think he was lost in a jump that went bad pulling in his entire group, but we have not found him, nobody knows where he might have gone in. To know there is an entire group of jumpers down there tears at us, but there is only so much we can do. It really doesn't make sense to Lens, they would not have gone down there some think they just vanished, nobody knows for sure, but the slightest chance they could be down there keeps them looking, and the find many other people they also look for.

So the plot changes a bit, using some of his engineering skills, the older ones did not have, he devises a grid search, although the vastness could take 1000s of years, they got the time, and for a few minutes of the episode, they begin to search, a few scenes including Ces first jump, where he rescues someone and with the emotion of such a thing removing the last of hardness of his heart. So on many of the jumps they rescue other people.

After Ces jump while looking at the grid, he asks Lens more about the man, (have to write how this works out) but basically Ces figures out that first jumper was the very teacher from his school, the guy from the first episode. Ces goes to the terminal that requests and some information is gotten through the episode.

When he asks the system if it was true, for the first time the system responds with a soft voice, you can't let the others know. If they believe they can work their way out of here, then they will not learn to do for other reasons. And he did not really work his way out anyway, but they wont understand. He works down there he is one of the teachers now, there are many of them, some from the Smiths, some even from the Mushroom pickers. There empathy and caring is to valuable not to be inside the inner world.

Ces, goes back to Lens, they prepare for another night of jumping, and Ces takes the jump that night, knowing it really was finding anyone that mattered, not just the other jumpers.

He rescues another lady that night,

episode ends with a few of the rescued people coming up to him while working on a cable, and Ces starting a second and a third jumping group, and instead of the depressing dreariness that was at the beginning of the episode, the series ends with people talking about there next jump, and working on cables, Ces silent when they mention looking for the Teacher.

*Again not my belief in existence just an attempt at a moral tale,

Just a short story rough draft I wanted to make into a two part OuterLimits like show.

Anyone think it has any potential if worked on awhile?

5. I think it's got a lot of potential
Are you a Robert Heinlen fan? The mind bender scene in the first episode reminds me a little of him. But the story appears unique to me. I don't know if I'd post much more here.

6. Thanks for the comment.
I though maybe the rough draft was to hard to visualize.

On the topic of someone taking the idea. I choose to trust that no one would steal the idea.

That would not be nice or fair, but if someone thought it had potential and wanted to use it, that would be great, so putting the plot point out is that kind of idea. Although if it was changed to say something else, that would be upsetting. Which happens to many ideas.

I have little ground to argue copyright, since I play many music clips, and with that acknowledgement I have to just hope that if it was used by someone they would like to hear more of the idea or even use it in a way that would allow the story to hold its original idea.

I am already owed a ton of money from years ago, so the concept of collecting cash is not my primary concern, or I would have to focus on the fact that I am already owed, so with that, posting ideas that could end up not having some financial gain for me is not part of the thought process.

Does that make sense?

If I try to lock in some method of negotiating any profit, I negate the fact that I am already owed money. It would be doing something twice expecting different results.

7. I don't think I read Robert Heinlen.

This idea sorta comes from a reverse Matrix, with a reversal, where episode 2 sorta comes full circle back to episode 1.

And the computer could be any metaphor, aliens, time travel, or many spiritual ones, I just picked the tron matrix metaphor because it is pretty easy to stack worlds with.

Also the idea sorta came out of Dragging the Line, in some odd way, it is like that also. But many things match different things. Like the fire jumpers are hugging a tree, then dragging a line. Trees being living. lots of ideas made up the story.

8. Not sure what a mind bender scene is.
Although I have seen a trailer for a clip about the last of the air benders.

And in 2008, although I don't believe in that stuff, I got all elements in the chains I was posting. So I probably will look into the mind bender, air bender stuff at some point, if only for ideas.

10. yea, that is the transition to making it an internal thing about him.
It was not the effect his actions might have that plotted his coarse, but his choice to pursue that action. So the action effect itself is removed to try and make that point.

It could be added to in dialog, where his attempt is stopped by a slight ripple back, changing the outcome, or from a comment from the teacher, a tough concept to put into film.

I think the best way is for him to push the button, then look back and notice he was stopped before doing it, but he did it to create his path, not to have effect. Since the effect was stopped by some effect from the combined sympathies from the students and even the sims.
