5. Levant

There's a fine line between genius and insanity. I have erased this line.

A politician is a man who will double cross that bridge when he comes to it.

Behind the phony tinsel of Hollywood lies the real tinsel.

Every time I look at you I get a fierce desire to be lonesome.

Happiness isn't something you experience; it's something you remember.

I am no more humble than my talents require.

I can remember Doris Day before she was a virgin.

I don't drink. I don't like it. It makes me feel good.

I envy people who drink - at least they know what to blame everything on.

I have given up reading books; I find it takes my mind off myself.

I have no trouble with my enemies. But my god damn friends... they are the ones that keep me walking the floors at night.

I knew Doris Day before she was a virgin.

I think a lot of Bernstein - but not as much as he does.

I'm a study of a man in chaos in search of frenzy.

I've given up reading books. I find it takes my mind off myself.

Once Dwight Eisenhower makes up his mind, he's full of indecision.

Once I make up my mind, I'm full of indecision.

Roses are red, violets are blue, I'm schizophrenic, and so am I.

Schizophrenia beats dining alone.

So little time and so little to do.

Strip away the phony tinsel of Hollywood and you'll find the real tinsel underneath.

The only difference between the Democrats and the Republicans is that the Democrats allow the poor to be corrupt, too.

There are two sides to every question: my side and the wrong side.

Underneath this flabby exterior is an enormous lack of character.

What the world needs is more geniuses with humility; there are so few of us left.

Oscar Levant

39. they cut an acceptance speech short
so Ben Stiller could act like an idiot.

Again.

When are they going to stop letting him onstage? He always seems to try to be as stupid as possible. I could really do without him. Make him read his damn lines and stop trying to be funny and failing miserably.

49. uh, I assumed that the crazy lady was Ellinor Burkett
the co-director.

Of course, I could be wrong, but that was my assumption.

Besides which, that wasn't the one immediately before Ben Stiller, there was one other speech after that which was cut very short.

she really jumped all over the guy's comments - it didn't look good, for sure.

Some of Ben Stiller's movies are ok - I quite liked Mystery Men - however, the last couple of times I've seen him at award shows, he's really annoyed me. Actually, not as much this time as the last time, but I still found him annoying.

If James Taylor made a recording of the Double-Mint Gum theme, I'd probably buy 6 copies.

137. I am fucking ecstatic 'Avatar' and Cameron didn't win the big ones
'Avatar' is just a soulless mess. An effects-saturated spectacle that has no business being called art. They gave it a few of the technical awards and sent it on its way. Cameron is such a pompous twit, it makes me happy he didn't win.

I wasn't expecting it to anyway, once 'The Hurt Locker' started picking up awards early. That is often a 'tell'.

My favorite win of the night was Jeff Bridges. Happy with the other acting results too. Bullock is one of the least pretentious people in the business. Was almost expecting the young lady from 'Precious' to win. What an amazing experience this must have been for her.

141. It really didn't. Imho :)
The only thing that Avatar did better than any other movie was technical achievements and selling tickets.

The story was as deep as the napkin it was probably written on. And the delivery did nothing to improve on that. Not that it was bad. I was entertained and as a cinematic experience it was amazing seeing it in 3D.

But if such a movie wins best picture over a movie like The Hurt Locker - then something would be wrong.

147. The Cove and Julie and Julia
I'm glad The Cove won for best documentary as the dolphin killing needs to be stopped and it's a humanitarian issue people can relate to. Of course, Meryl Streep should probably have won for a wonderfully endearing performance anybody who cooks or thinks about it should see. I LMAO it was so enjoyable.

Avatar... well if it needs 3D then maybe I don't need to see another Aliens movie right now. Besides, if we switch to renewables and employ all the people who are out of work now we will not encounter the scenario of being "out of gas". It's very eco but pretty phony Hollywood BS. People are used to that now, unfortunately.
