So, what's everybody doing tonight?
As for me, I hung out at Barnes & Noble for a couple of hours, did a Target run, and am now kicking back with some hot chocolate, spiked with peppermint schnapps. :)

4. I don't mind sharing, but it's not as I make it sound.
Just another flare-up of the sciatic nerve in my left leg. It seems worse today, and after I thought I had been making progress for the last week or so...

I was noticing the prescription med ads on MSNBC tonight and wondering why they never seem to advertise the really heavy-duty painkillers

6. We just got back from a fundraiser for Shannyn Moore.
She's trying to raise money so she can go on location throughout Alaska for her TV show "Moore Up North."

Here she is talking on speaker phone with Thom Hartmann who called to wish her luck.

Good food, good company. Good gossip. Several of the local bloggers were there -- Mudflats, Immoral Minority, Celtic Diva -- and a good group of local progressives, three of the Assembly members, a candidate for governor. It was really fun.

I'm really proud of Shannyn. Our local media here is overwhelmingly right-wing and mean, so she is a very refreshing friendly, progressive voice. We love it when we see her on Countdown. Her TV shows have been so entertaining and so educational. She's had fantastic guests, and we've all been learning so much. Our bloggers up here are some of the best.

Head and chest cold of the ages. Never experienced anything like that in my life. Spent every night coughing. Knocked me on my ass for 10 days.

Hope you feel better soon. :)

11. Here's a synopsis of my evening:
Small, annoying human who shares half of my DNA and all of my attitude problem: Can I have some fries?

Me: No, I'm tired, you're sick, I don't especially want to leave the house. Pick something to eat out of the kitchen.

SAHWSHOMDNAAAOMAP: You're mean. :goes to look in kitchen: I wish we lived in a restaurant so I could eat fries all day.

Me: If you're just going to complain at me and not get any actual food out, close the fridge.

a few minutes later...

SAHWSHOMDNAAAOMAP: (holding NERF swords and axe) Can we roughhouse?

Me: No, I'm busy, and you're sick and are supposed to be resting. Plus I really don't want you tackling me and breathing on me while you're sick.

SAHWSHOMDNAAAOMAP: Okay, can I have some fries then?

Me: Didn't we just have this conversation?

SAHWSHOMDNAAAOMAP: You're the worst mother ever and I don't like you.

Repeat from beginning

35. For the first time in two weeks: NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The last week especially was a week from hell. The train accident that disrupted traffic between Brussels and Paris
was still disrupting train traffic between Brussels and Paris during a week when I had to be commuting by train
between Brussels and Paris. I got 80% of the stuff done I needed to do in Brussels and about 50% of the stuff done
I had to do in Paris, and NONE of the stuff I should have done back in Germany, for which I will now suffer during
the course of the next week in overtime in Bavaria.

An American woman who was interviewing for a position with us was here, and I took her out to the Brussels airport
yesterday morning. The Continental Airlines agent in the ticket line started interrogating her (she's a 28 year old
from Colorado) as if she were wearing a sweater with Osama Bin Laden on one side and Mahmoud AhmadiNejad on the other.
The Continental agent called over some Zavantem security guy to stick by her side through passport control and
security control with two extra searches of her hand baggage and two extra pat-downs. This was for no apparent reason,
and I think Continental must be skimping on expenses by hiring incompetent agents. Either that, or their Belgian
employee was being paid by some terrorist group to provide a distraction by harassing someone completely innocuous
in order to let someone with evil intentions to pass unnoticed. At any rate, I saw that Continental had just joined
the Star Alliance with United Airlines, which should only be taken in cases of extreme desperation and emergency.
Add Continental to this category.

But tonight, for the first time in two weeks (and probably last time during the next three weeks) I'm just hanging
out and doing nothing at all. My wife's mom lives up in a small village in northern Germany, and she had planned to
go up and visit for the weekend. Her mom is very good people, and even though she would have stayed if I had insisted,
I told her to go on as planned, and I would just decompress.

44. Waiting for this last day of February to be over with.
Then March arrives, and we are that much closer to Spring arriving on the 21st..Yay!!

It can still snow here until May, and this winter has sure seemed to be much longer, with only a few days above freezing and not very many sunny days, but the sun did peek out for about twenty minutes early this afternoon. We have so far been spared any very heavy snowfalls like the Northeast has had, but knock on wood, some of our deepest snowfall records have been set in March and April.
