1. I want Rush to play, but now that you mention it, i could definitely see them
choosing the Eagles

It would follow their new pattern of picking bands well past their prime

So I can whine and complain that he is too old, should be put out of his misery, retire, give it up. get rid of the paunch and say that his voice sure isn't what it used to be.

and he still has one of the best butts in Rock & Roll.

The last time I saw him, he was all over the stage, truly performing, and was terrific.

4. I thought Tom Petty and heartbreakers put on a great half time show.
maybe someone that could appeal to an (slightly) older and (slightly) younger crowd - Pearl Jam or Green Day or both. Radiohead? probably not commercial enough.

But I do agree, based on past picks, it would seem like it is Bruce's turn.

Just not the Eagles. Eagle hater here.

But I agree, Tom Petty rocked.

Although--hate them or love them or being indifferent to them (as I am)--I could see The Eagles doing a halftime show.

large groups? There seem to be a lot of those, people love em and they're very electic. (not that the SB admin folks care about eclecticism - they just don't want to see any breasts!)

22. The only band that could carry Cowboys Stadium is Iron Maiden
Have 'em play Wasted Years, The Trooper and Running Free.

There are a couple other Iron Maiden songs that would be...well, let's say INTERESTING...if you played 'em at a Super Bowl, but somehow I don't think they could get away with Run To The Hills and The Rime of the Ancient Mariner is NOT a song for a Super Bowl crowd--besides it's fourteen minutes long.

Green Day's risen to a level of mainstreamedness (?) that they come off as a quite plausible halftime act, whether you think that's a good thing or not.

47. I love Shonen Knife.
saw them open for Nirvana (last U.S. tour) and at Lollapalooza the following summer.

Laughed our asses off during 'Brown Mushroom' at the Nirvana show because, well, we had enjoyed some prior to the show. At Lollapalooza they played one of the side stages and their start was delayed due to "artistic differences". They argued for a good half hour over one riff, much to the delight of the assembled crowd. :-)

p.s. the cover of 'On Top of the World' is sublime.

48. I'm sure they will continue to book classic rock acts that irritate me
Tom Petty and The Who over the radio are guaranteed "time to change the station" groups, along with The Eagles, and Bob Seger--so I'm guessing one of those two acts is next.

Springsteen would be a great pick.

Jimmy Buffet would be a great pick.

Elton John would be a great pick.

Billy Joel would be acceptable.

Madonna would be ok.

Red Hot Chili Peppers would be good.

There are plenty of acts w/ much less popular appeal that I would love to see on the stage (even more so than the ones I just listed) but are just not mainstream enough to get this gig:

Crowded House

Peter Gabriel

Yes

54. I like the Foo Fighters idea, but it's not gonna happen
Next year's game is in Dallas, so I'd expect something twangy. Garth Brooks (an Oklahoma native) would seem to be an obvious pick. ZZ Top is alos a pretty obvious choice.

A dark horse possibility: Los Lonely Boys, which plays to the NFL's effort to tap into the Latino market. I could see them being paieed up with an old country warhorse like Willy, which would actually be pretty cool.

Then again, they might just go and dredge up The Eagles or Bon Jovi.
