On a scale of 1 to 10, how stupid does that make me?

3. My dear asdjrocky...
It doesn't make you stupid at all...

Anyone who looks up a word because they're not sure how to spell it is very intelligent, IMHO...

Literally.

7. Now, I'm confused.
.
You would have to literally spell it "i-t".
.
.
.
.
.
.
Why isn't "illiterally" a word? Teabaggers and their ilk cause
me to believe there's a stronger NEED for that word than ever
before.

6. I'm an excellent speller. Get my underwear at K-Mart.
.
I AM an excellent speller (I think reading voraciously and from
a very early age are two important reasons for that). but I still
go to the dictionary often (though now it's dictionary.com, etc.).
.
Certain words give me everlasting problems. "Embarrass" and
'exaggerate" are two such words. I just had to look them up for
this post... and I was wrong on both of them. Again. For the first
one, I'm going to try to remember to picture Roseanne Barr's
em/barr-ass/ing rear end. GEEZ, what a price I'm willing to pay
for perfection!!!
.
I had trouble for decades with the word "friend" (although it fits
the standard "i before e" rule, I would always think it was an
exception). The moment I wrote out "freind", I would know it was
wrong. Until one day, a friend (yeah, yeah) told me that "there's
an end at the end of friend".
.
"Desert" and "dessert", I learned early -- desert has one s like
sand and dessert has two s's like strawberry shortcake.
.
Don't feel stupid about going to a dictionary. Some of the stupidest
people I've run into have been so smart that they think they know it
all -- often resulting in ridiculous (although enjoyable for others)
behavior.
.
.
HAHAHAHA -- Spelchek doesn't like the word "freind" above. HAHAHAHA
.
Suck it, Spelchek.

Hell, the main reason I switched from IE to Firefox is because Firefox has a built in spell-check... I am a terrible speller! So I don't fault you for having to look up words; I used to do it all the time!

12. It's a rule-breaking word.
A short "i" should be followed by a double consonant, but it isn't here. Words like "literally" are why I'm glad I have a spell-checker.
