Did any of you ever have to discipline your butler?
I'm sitting here chugging codeine cough medicine from the bottle. I told him to stand next to me with a napkin and to wipe my chin when I started to drool the medicine.

Well, he got lazy, distracted...or something... and he let some drip onto my shirt.

I'm going to give him a formal, written warning.

2. Too late...I fired him.
A man of my stature should not have to put up with that kind of incompetency.

3. He probably dropped watercress on your cribbage board as well.
Just as well.

5. Feeney asked to have a day off to visit his aged, sickly mother, once.
I asked him if it was entirely necessary, as my toenails needed clipping that day, and he made a noise like "Hmmph".

I caned him for his insolence.

8. I will not tolerate such a disruption from the hired help in my household.
Feeney was lucky I wasn't cleaning the musket that day, as things would have gone the worse for him, I dare say.

I haven't had to reprimand him since his petty little outburst, so I assume the bit of physical correction I administered upon him improved his overall enthusiasm for his station.

I shan't have the help bellowing out their disapproval at my decisions.

Bad form, and all that.

10. Turnabout is fair play.
Spill cough syrup on his shirt. Make him stand very still and invite the neighbors over to smell and ridicule him.

11. Are you kidding? Every bloody day!!!
He has been completely remiss of late with regard to the running of my bath. Just yesterday, it was a full TWO degrees colder than my preferred 81.7 degrees. I thought I should die of cold. And he has overclippped my left middle toenail for the third time in a fortnight. And, he has been stocking the pantry with fat free potahto chips! Fat free potahto chips?! Pour moi?! Hah! And, to top it off, this morning, the dolt failed to zip my fly!

Honestly! I'm afraid I'm going to have to seriously consider relieving Puddington of his duties. But it is so difficult to find good help these days.

13. If you are not discipling them then your are failing
Let's face it, the help is the help. As one does not expect much out of a child or a monkey, you cannot expect much out of domestic help without constant punishment.
