History Channel Fan Check-in!
Fans of the History Channel, Check-In.

What's your favorite species of History Channel Show:

1. Hitler Shows
2. Stalin Shows
3. Civil War Programs
4. UFO Shows
5. Generic WWII Shows
6. Cold War Shows
7. Mail Call

I'm voting for the Cold War shows, but I can watch any WWII show they put on without any hestitation.

were on opposite sides and actually shot against each other in the same battle about a hundred years before I was born. :)

3. Hitler shows remind me of * and Poppy.
God, I must be a masochist! But, really, I love the WWII programs in colour. It reminds me of my father who was a vet of that war.

BTW, 'Mail Call' is repulsive...it SUCKS big time! AAARRRGGGHH! And, that obnoxious host! What ever happened to the "Scud Stud"?

I only wish that I received the International version of History Channel. There's REAL world history there. And, lots of it! They only show it on special promotions...once in a 'blue moon'.

Just my 2¢.

5. Surprisingly yes
All of my buddies and I watch the history channel. I don't smoke much pot but they do and they love watching all of these documentaries when they're stoned.

I love them when I'm sober. When I was a kid, they used to show us the most god awful boring documentaries in elementary school and so that put a bad taste of television learning in my mouth for years. The HC changed that. :)

7. I was a fan...
but then I realized that the only part of history that channel really focuses on (in the timeslots where people are watching en masse) is war.

WAR. WAR. WAR. They should call it the War Channel, not much history going on.

9. You forgot haunted house shows.
Judging from that network, history is about the study of haunted nazi commies in WWII from space.

It's gotten as bad as Discovery, or MTV. I hear History International is better. They should replace it.

10. Up here we get History "Television", almost the same as History Channel
Edited on Mon Mar-22-04 03:31 AM by ConcernedCanuk
.
.
.

And we get some more "revealing" shows than they get "down south"

And seeing as wars usually are a big part of changing History, yup, alot of war shows, but alot of ours are preceded or followed by an updated documentary and discussion about the same show.

Just watched Vietnam: Ghosts of War a 2004 documentary 2 days ago, quite revealing. and disturbing. Many references and comparisons were made to Iraq, including Rummy's rant about "It's a different time, it's a different place ..". He's right that far, but it's the SAME scenario!

And I noticed that alot of the posters make reference to the "H" shows.

How many of us will live long enough to be seeing shows about "W"?

Oh yah, "W" is the next star of the History Channels alright.

For those that are curious - click on the image below to check it out - there's some pretty good articles, transcripts and so on there.

13. The H Channel!
I live with historians, so that channel's on a lot in our house. I like the shows about how things have changed over time. The "History of Sex" series is great, for instance. I prefer shows that focus on the cultures people lived in, rather than battles or personalities.

I also like some of the WWII stuff, but don't watch it much. Every time Hitler is on TV, Jag makes a weird exasperated noise (I call it the "Hitler noise) and flips the channel.

The UFO shows mostly irritate me, because they focus on the UFO phenomenon itself when what I'm most interested in is the cultural reaction to the phenomenon...oh well.

Nazi's are a Comedy Central special waiting to happen. :D

19. Damn!
That's the first I've heard of the Sex Doll thing? Wow!

One of the most twisted ones is about Rudolph Hess (aka Frauline Hess for his man-on-man exploits) parachuted into the UK to try and single handedly negotiate peace with The Duke of Hamilton (who had no power himself)

Bizarre!

20. Yeah, apparently Himmler thought it was "safer"
IIRC there was some committee that was supposed to make the doll properly Aryan-looking. Himmler thought it would be safer for the SS to have these dolls than to sleep with prostitutes on the front. I don't know if they ever actually made these sex-dolls or not though.

I knew the thing about Hess. I also heard Goering used to cross-dress ("wore pink tutus and ate whole bakeries").

34. Yeah--though I heard something interesting
Edited on Mon Mar-22-04 05:04 AM by AlienGirl
The gossip I heard was that Goebbels had essentially talked Hitler into doing that because Rohm had made advances to Goebbels when they were drinking on a train, and Goebbels said no, and Rohm got forceful.

I also heard that Goebbels was bi and had an *enormous* crush on Hitler--even offering to "help him out" once when Hitler complained of sexual frustration.

Tucker

On edit: one of my roommates is one of three or four people who can read Goebbels's handwriting, and worked on translating the Goebbels diaries. So I hear a lot of Goebbels stories.

Maybe.. maybe not. I am inclined to believe the simplest answer, Rohm got greedy for power and made himself a threat to people he should have avoided becoming a threat to.

That scared Hitler. I don't think it was so much a power play than it was the organization that Rohm controlled was in conflict with the newfound 'legitimate' power structure that Hitler developed as Chancellor.
