Things to not do with Grits: Pour them on your sleeping boyfriend
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_odd_grits_attack

BOUTTE, La. – A 44-year-old woman was booked with second-degree battery after allegedly pouring a pot of boiling grits onto her sleeping boyfriend. St. Charles Parish sheriff's deputies said Carolyn Brown caused second-degree burns on the man's face and arms. The man told deputies that he came home from work on Nov. 7, got into an argument with Brown, told her that he was breaking up with her, then went to bed.

The Times-Picayune reported Brown was arrested Wednesday and booked into the Nelson Coleman Correctional Facility.

It wasn't immediately clear if Brown has an attorney.

I like how they said "Allegendly" - like perhaps it could have been Cream of Wheat or Oatmeal she poured on the boyfriend

1. Deja Vous......Copycat Crime! Al Green, 1974
"On October 18, 1974, Mary Woodson White, a girlfriend of Mr. Green's, assaulted him before committing suicide at his Memphis home.<5>Although she was already married, Mrs. White reportedly became upset when Mr. Green refused to marry her.<6>At some point during the evening, Mrs. White doused Mr. Green with a pan of boiling grits while he was showering causing third-degree burns on Mr. Green's back, stomach and arms.<7>

Green cited the incident as a wake-up call to change his life.<5>He became an ordained pastor of the Full Gospel Tabernacle in Memphis in 1976.<8> Continuing to record R&B, Green saw his sales start to slip and drew mixed reviews from critics.

2. Well, in the "what not to do" department, how about the boyfriend?
He told her he was breaking up with her and then went to bed. Not bright when your (now ex) girlfriend is cooking grits.

7. In past relationships, I learned to not break up with your girlfriend and go to bed rightafterwards.
No good can come out of doing that.

12. I was a Grits Mule in SF the 70's & 80's.
Friends and co-workers in SF could never find Grits in local grocery stores. Even some people who lived in Bayview/Hunters point. Fortunately my local Oakland Safeway stocked Grits. So every few months I'd take orders and do my Grits mule thing. Eventually a hand full of soulthern bells in the Mission and Castro got the Church Street Safeway to stock Grits. Soon after the Rainbow grocery opened fully stocked with Grits and Grits became available through out the city shortly after that.

Pre-Grits were bleak timesbut by the late 80's & early 90's the crisis was over.

I never heard of anyone pouring precious grits over any boyfriend, even for fun.

13. That's odd. A NOLA transplant swore she couldn't find dried red beans in SF.
around the early '90s.

Maybe she should've tried Oakland.
