As the boys and I were getting out the car earlier, we saw a young man - early twenties say - walking towards us. I was eyeing him a bit - as was my 5'11" soon to be 16 yo as he was getting out of the car.
My 11 yo (the 175 lb linebacker one) was just getting out of the backseat. That son is African American and - I'm not. - that's pertinent because the guy walks up and says to me,
"What - are you integrating now?"
"Huh? WHAT did you say?" I looked from him to my younger son, back to the guy, checked my older son whose eyebrows shot up a mile . . . I also sorta "bristled" I guess is the word - not to mention my 11 yo (the 175 lb linebacker one) stood up . . .
the guy then says, "Uh - Are you integrating with , with uh , with um - um GOD?"
Uh. No. I said and turned away.
He walks around the car to my older son saying things like "God loves you" and stuff like that. Our response, "Santa Clause loves you, too". though I guess I did ask the guy if he was out on a day pass.
My point is, I don't think he was intending to be talking about "God" - I think he may've had a bit of problem with my black child. My antenna are up, yeah - though that hasn't happened since we left North Carolina (one of the perks of living up North in a liberal town - less prejudice!) But, I dunno, I think he was trying to start something and realized he might have been biting off more than he can chew so he changed the subject.
Then again, maybe he was just plain damn crazy.
At any rate, one of my weirder interactions lately.
