They're welcome to take some of the dead leaves from the front lawn.

I suppose I could put out boxes of old cassette tapes that will otherwise be going to Goodwill. You KNOW how kids love 80s and 90s tunes on cassette!

11. We used to have "Dormoween" in college...
where the upperclassmen would give out cigarettes, condoms and beer among other inappropriate stuff to the Freshmen who went door-to-door. We also used to give them trash too though, literally the contents of the wastepaper bin.

Costumes too.

That was a great college tradition...nobody else ever did "Dormoween" that I heard of. Go Cards!!

13. Beets.
Kids love 'em.

We used to give them .410 shotgun shells, but that just got kinda costly.

Gotta economize where we can, with things the way they are, and all.

I purposefully buy candy that I hate. Otherwise, I would eat it myself before Halloween.

23. I do the exact opposite
and only give out candy I like. There seems to be fewer kids each year and I'd much rather be stuck with a bunch of snickers and reece's than candy corn.

From my usual perch above the front porch. Kids enjoy it during the summer, and I never want summer to end!

18. for kids with paper bags a nice 16 oz glass of water.
One of my grandparents neighbors actually did this to my twin brother and me when we were kids, poured it right into our bags ruining the candy and causing the bags to break.

Fortunately a couple of my great uncles were visiting that night. Unfortunately you don't mess with nephews of former SeaBees and Bataan survivors. The neighbor's house needed extensive clean up the following morning.

Think "can I make it through the gate, to the door, knock, get candy and run back out the gate before that big pit bull wakes up?"

32. I have a selection so kids can pick, Nerds, Twizzlers, Snickers, Reeses Cups, and Kit Kats
sometimes I throw in lollipops.

The get to pick what they like.

The chocolate left over goes to the freezer where my family picks at it for a few months.

Not to sound like a grumpy old man, but I'm not a big fan of little kids to beging with, and there's no way I'm going to put up with 50 or 60 of them ringing my doorbell.

35. XTRA LARGE Chocolate bars
the really big guys. Because maybe ten kids total will come here. Between the mega churches who trick or treat out of their car trunks in their own parking lots and rampant paranoia no one trick or treats any more around here.
