I watched MILK for the first time yesterday on HBO
I loved the casting, acting, art direction and writing. Also, the seamless way that the editor interspersed vintage newsreel footage with movie footage.

It was a fitting tribute.

1. I suggest watching "The Times of Harvey Milk" documentary...
... while "MILK" is still fresh in your mind.

It's an outstanding documentary narrated by Harvey Fierstein, and it's is a tear-jerker just like the movie. You will better appreciate Harvey Milk and Sean Penn for his outstanding portrayal of the man.

The "Times of Harvey Milk" is free to watch on Hulu... http://www.hulu.com/watch/49577/the-times-of-harvey-milk

3. I watched it, also.
I thought they did a great job. Josh Brolin blew me away. sometimes he is unrecognizable, he gets so into his character.

5. I saw MILK last year at Thanksgiving, when it came out.
Had to drive to Houston, of course, since they don't show movies that require thought here in Jesusland. It was quite good. I'm old enough to remember when all the craziness went down and the "Twinkie Defense". I was in my later years of college.

The book "The Mayor of Castro Street" is excellent and in depth. They reissued it when the movie came out for a tie-in.

Also, I like Victor Garber since I saw him in "Titanic". I think he looks like a nice guy.
He plays Mayor Moscone.

8. I saw Milk when it first released at the theatre. I thought Sean
Penn and Josh Brolin gave the performances of their lives. IMHO, it was one of the best movies in recent memory.

7. What a story that was. I remember it well. A lot of people wanted
him to get the death penalty, as it had just been reinstated under California law.
And he did.
Whoa, they say, no, only 5 years, but then he committed suicide.
Yes, I know, sez I, self inflicted. But is he any less dead?

15. Anita Bryant?
Not sure who you mean, since I haven't seen the movie yet. Bumped it up in my Netflix queue though.

18. Anita Bryant is still alive.
I just checked out her Conservapedia entry for kicks, and found this gem: " recorded three smash popular hit songs, of which a couple were imitated later by famous groups such as the Beatles." Um, the fuck?

If that assertion isn't proof that right wing fundies live in a different reality than the rest of us, I don't know what is.

21. Oh, you have got to be kidding me
Proof that the far-right is full of the whitest, nerdiest people in the world. Yeah, the Beatles copied her alright. Jeez!

12. I just saw that last week. Shocked the pants off me with its gutsy writing.
Also, I was surprised to learn that it was Dan White of all people who used the infamous Twinkie Defense to excuse his crimes. (I would have sworn the Twinkie Defense was used by someone else later on in history to get off like, fraud charges or something; disturbing.)

16. I saw it once. Tried watchng it again last night.
It was an amazing, amazing film, but a little too close to home for me. I had met all three of the players -- Milk, Moscone, and White. White actually spoke at my graduation - many of my classmates had worked on his campaign.

The filmmakers really got it all right. I went through the neighborhood when they were filming -- it was like an acid flashback.

Yes, it was a fitting tribute, expecially becasue we have the anti-gay pro-8 shitbags slagging Milk just a few weeks ago as a pervert who was for child sex.
