Bought my first Blu-Ray Player

Which movies should I get first??

And, will I see a huge difference in my DVD's that I currently have??

1. I don't notice a difference with my DVD's in my ps3, which is a Blu-Ray player.

The first movie you should get should contain extreme graphic violence and lots of nudity.

Very pleased with both.

Big ups, also, for the 1995 Ehle-Firth Pride And Prejudice on Blu-ray. Both DVD releases were sadly-lacking, color-wise. Blu-ray is its salvation. Although the series was only filmed on 16mm, and the Blu-ray therefore just a bit grainy--but still breath-taking.

5. Hope you got a PS3 with it. As far as BR movies to try I suggest:

Wall-E, The Dark Knight, Pan's Labyrinth, Watchmen, 30 Days of Night (turn on the subtitles and you can see what the vampires are saying), Justice League - The New Frontier, The Matrix are all great on Blu-ray. Enjoy.

If you have an HDTV, you should see a real difference, but probably also on a regular TV.

You could buy/rent the Blu-Ray of a movie you already have on DVD for comparison purposes. Some Blu-Rays titles are packaged with a regular DVD, such as Coraline, and The Graduate, for easy comparison.

The Blu-Ray player will probably also "upsample" your regular DVDs for some extra sharpness. Also, I've found the Blu-Ray player can overcome the scratches on DVDs from the library or video store that my regular DVD player (or laptop) can't play.

I bought "The Fifth Element" on Blu-Ray, but I'm sort of saving that for when I upgrade my TV to HD.

10. I have a 1080P HDTV

We bought Transformers 2 as our first movie. It looks awesome.

I'm gonna try an old DVD movie tonight and see if there is any difference.

13. EVen though I also have a Blu-Ray player, I still buy movies on DVD as well.

Pretty much buy the Blu-Ray version if a movie is available in Extended Version.

For example, "Kingdom of Heaven" in Blu-Ray is the extended version and is awesome. An extra 40 minutes really adds missing storylines, as well as battle scenes, and transforms the movie from good to near masterpiece.

Pretty much any movie made in the last 10 years will look extremely good on Blu-Ray. You will notice the difference from DVD. However, movies from 1995 and earlier will usually be just as good on DVD, since the source material is somewhat degraded and won't take full advantage of the higher bitrate like newer movies could.

In other words, why spend $15 for the Blu-Ray of "Die Hard" if you already have the DVD, or if the DVD is available for $8? There will be little difference.

I'm waiting for the complete LOTR trilogy, extended editions, next year in Blu-Ray.

So far the only bluray disc to enter my home was Hancock. And I noticed I could see through some of the makeup. It is amazingly sharp.

I noticed a difference on DVD's. Its not huge, they look sharper, but also a little more pixely at times. Watching LOTR, I could tell the WETA scenes apart much better. Battle of helms deep was still amazing, but I could see the "not real" much easier than previously.

I will be buying the LOTR set on bluray, but there is NO chance I will buy it before they offer the extended version. I could spit on them for trying to rip people off by doing a "theatrical" release first, and holding the other back. Beyond lame.
