Sour Grapes?? or has Oprah "jumped the shark"??
I just watched the "Walmart Redecorating Show".. Phatoooooie !!!

It seems to me that every time I have tuned in lately (the late night version), it has been a make-over or redecorating show..

The shows used to have substance and sometimes were every enlightening or infprmational..

I am getting very tired of watching "sky's the limit" redecorating and make-overs..

The decorators have good ideas, for sure, BUT, it's just dwonright "gag-y" to see the fuss over their "work"..

If someone turned me loose with unlimited funds and a crew of mover-outers and mover-inners, whaddaya wanna bet MY rooms would end up pretty cool too ??

Most people (even if they shop at "w _ l_ art") could do a decent job of redoing their room if they did not have to worry about PAYING FOR THE SUPPLIES/FURNITURE/BEDDING/FABRIC/PAINT...AND the $30.00 per hour workmen times 4 or 5...and the DELIVERY CHARGES...AND THE TAXES...

Sorry, Oprah, but I liked it better when you were doing the Angel Network projects or having guests who might actually have DONE something.. (more than hitting walmart with an unlimited budget)..

1. I used to tape her show and watch it.......

but in the last year.....it's been a big love fest for consumerism.

And it bugs the crap out of me when she goes to a pretty well to do neighborhood to help out a very well to do couple with a "horrendous" room that is just terrible for them. How nice for them.....to have someone spend $6000 on one of their rooms, while their MAID spends two hours going to and from work every day! UGH.

It's like OPRAH: you used to work for the good of the common people, the oppressed, the disenfranchised.

One show she had last year was a Queen for the Day. That was pretty great. There was this african american woman.....just a lovely woman all around who was raising her 4 kids and 3 kids from her deceased sister.....single mom......and had worked for this nice white family.....12 hours a day! And was like a nanny to their white kids for years.

Anyways, Oprah gave her a luggage set and a trip and merry maid service for a year and a NEW mini-van (she had been driving a terribly old van with no a/c for years).

So the white family who LOVES this woman soooooo much wrote to Oprah to nominate Nanny as Queen for the Day.

Now......the rub is.......if this family loved her sooooo much, why don't they just simply cut her hours to 8 a day and pay her the same? Or no doubt...pay her a living wage!

It just bugs!

I keep meaning to write Oprah to ask her why she hasn't Caroline Myss on in the last year!!! Instead, I stopped taping the show altogether.

2. Yep.. the sofa they threw into a dumpster was better than the one I have
</sour grapes>

I really think she has lost her "zest" for the show.. A while back she was talking about quitting, and then signed for another 5 years.. She's going thru the motions, but the shows are not worth watching anymore..

For the few people she "helps", it may be great, but for the rest of us with taped together mini blinds (damned CATS ! ), and threadbare furniture (Damned CATS ), it is not "must see TV"..:)
