You don't have to post spoilers, just your impressions... However, I will say that it's dark

I like dark

1. I'm going to have to see a few more episodes to decide
I was definitely impressed with it - more than SG Atlantis, which I could never sit through. I actually watched the pilot twice, though I was interrupted both times for short periods.

I do like seeing Hamish McBeth (Robert Carlyle) again, but he sure has aged a lot!

8. It certainly has the possibility to devolve into SG: Voyager
but it also has the potential of being another good SG series, even if I'm not thrilled with some of the casting.

4. The jury's still out - it has promise, I'll probably watch it through the whole season
I couldn't get into SG1 or Atlantis at all. I've tried, but they're too goofy and lame. SGU definitely seems like it's taking a darker tack, but there are still too many forced lame cheesy jokes for my taste. I prefer my sci-fi gritty, and if there is to be humor, take a page out of the DS9 playbook and apply it sparingly with great precision, rather than peppering the whole script with dorky junior high style wisecracks.

That said, it does have promise. I like Robert Carlyle's character - he could totally be another Baltar, or he could be a decent fellow. I like that I can't immediately tell which way he'll end up, because most of the other characters are shallow two-dimensional archetypes - the Dorky Genius Wisecracking Sidekick, the Tough Steely Young Military Stud, the Smart and Tough but Sensitive Female Voice of Compassion, the Badass Dude with a Shady Past. None of them really did anything for me at all, but then again, it's just the pilot, so I'll give them time to hopefully grow on me. I'll give it a season to see how they flesh the characters out and how daring they actually are with the storylines. It's definitely being marketed as the replacement for Battlestar Galactica, and if it's half as good as BSG was, I'll happily watch.

..."Space 1999"-type setup will work over the long term. From the preview clips I've seen, it looks like the "Destiny" will stop at a different planet each week, giving the plucky crew the chance to have a new exotic adventure before zooming off to the next locale. Hopefully, there'll be some underlying logic about why the Ancients sent the ship on it's whistle-stop tour of the universe in the first place. Maybe there's a "Rendezvous With Rama" thing going on.

6. Yeah, it's dark, but there's dark, and there's dark. I'm not sure...
yet it can live up to its opinion of itself.

16. Aww man!
I was wasn't aware the movies had been put on hold. Though I'm a fan of the series, I don't "follow" it like so many others, like looking on the forums and so on.

I could see them using that "wormhole-drive" though to get to that ship if they know what galaxy they are in. Maybe someone will find a ship or facility that manufactures ZPMs, too :)

15. I thought it was great!
But then again, I'm a Stargate fan :D

My biggest problem with it has to do with SciFi Channel, though.

Too Many Commercial Breaks!!!1!

It was like after the first hour I was skipping over commercials literally every five minutes! I'll be glad when it's all on DVD...

17. Spoiler alert: Tiffany gets killed in the 3rd episode and it later turns out Derrick is an alien
Also the Volganite Queen is plotting an ambush in the season finale, but Commander Zane's got a spy in her camp. I won't give it away, but it's her security chief, Voxnor.

18. No, I didn't...
I freely admit that I love the original Stargate and really love Atlantis; I was very unhappy when it was canceled. I also love Star Wars, the Star Trek's, and love Farscape, Babylon 5 as well as Space Above and Beyond. I happen to like the plot driven, action kind of science fiction as well as the, more cerebral type. I enjoyed Battlestar Galactica (even though Starbuck should have been a guy) until it became a soap opera in space; it began to take itself way too seriously. It just got boring. I am also a huge fan of Heinlein, Asimov, Herbert, and the rest.

What I dislike about SGU, it started out boring. For all of the hype about how different it was going to be, how lame was the opening. Seriously, to rip off The Last Starfighter? Even if it was done as a tribute to a favorite movie of their's, Cooper and Wright couldn't come up with a better way to open the show and introduce Eli? It was lame and juvenile. I don't like the Rush character so far; who didn't know what the Senator was going to do as soon as he realized the consequences of the problem; then there is the obligatory blond...not the greatest actress in the world and where did that hairdo come from, and Ming-Na...she's not bringing a lot of credibility to the tough female role, she came across as pretty phony even for character from the IOA. You want tough, Col. Samantha Carter is tough.

Sorry, I guess I was more angry about Atlantis being canceled than I realized but I am not impressed with SGU. I think that Cooper and Wright just want to emulate BG's success; this just looks like a poor copy of ideas that have already been done on a lot of other shows. Nothing original here, move along.
