That's it! I'm dumping AT&T wireless. Recommendations for new provider
First, I have this serious deadzone in the middle of my house, which is annoying.

Second, I hate my cell phone. In fact if I had to choose a dodgeball team and I had to choose between my Sony Erickson Cell Phone and George W. Bush - I'd pick Bush (but barely). When I bought the phone 2 years ago I was just in the middle of buying my house and my cell phone was destroyed by pineapple juice. So I took something free with the new plan and that's what I got. I hate that phone. Half the time I don't even bother to carry it with me because I am so annoyed by this phone.

I have 2 months left on my contract and I'm pissed they won't let me upgrade today. I've been with AT&T for 8 years now, always paid my bills on time and never once tried to get an early upgrade. The best they could do was $18 fee and I could get a 'reduced price' Iphone but not the upgrade offer.

F*CK THAT! I'll switch. Life is too short to spend with a crappy phone. Maybe it'll solve my deadzone too.

1. There are terrible deadzones out here with AT & T.

They don't call 'em Bermuda Triangles for nothing. For such a large company that simply should not happen. Middle of Montana or North Dakota, ok but not here.

2. cricket wireless, AKA, the greyhound bus of cell phone services
joking, try t-mobile or verizon - the only other two of the three nationals that are worth a damn.

Unfortunately, it has its "issues" as well.

4. Most have signal strength maps
ask to see them to see which has the best coverage for where you live, work and generally hang out.

5. I've had Verizon since roughly 2001 or 2002
except for a brief period when we moved to an area where Verizon had no service and we used T-Mobile.

VERY happy with Verizon. Never had a problem wit them or their phones, have always been able to get help or assistance or answers to questions on the first call. I don't recall ever having a billing issue.

our phone that we have now is the ATT haters version of iphone (kind of). it's touch screen. No iphone by any means, but I like it just fine it's the LG Dare. Decent little phone.

Would love an iPhone but I have HATED every service offered by AT&T. we had cable with them in the late 90's and it sucked. Service sucked, customer service SUCKED so hard. THen had internet with them. Have had cell phone service with them. Every time I vow I will *NEVER* use AT&T again. ANd now I won't. As much as I want an iphone, I will NEVER get one as long as i have to have AT&T service.

As far as upgrades, Verizon does a "new every 2" where you can get a free or highly discounted phone upgrade every 2 years. When we got our LG Dares in December, we upgraded from olllld phones we had for about 3 years and got a sweet discount on top of the rebate and discounts already applied to the phone.

I've been very happy with Verizon. I highly reccommend them to anyone who's looking.

6. I dumped AT&T this spring, now I use Virgin Mobile
I usually recommended it to people having problems with their phones. I have the cheapest phone they offer ($9.99, no joke). Even that one works great. They have amazing plans, you can even do crap on their website for free minutes if you need them. My favorite part is how there's no roaming charges, ever! I've been all over the place and have yet to pay extra.

7. No matter what the provider, always remember that Sony Ericson phones suck.
I'm still a big proponent of those wacky Finns and their Nokias.

9. ask around to see who gets decent reception
cell phone companies coverage vary dramatically.
Where i live, I wouldn't touch t-moble with a 10 ft pole.
Same for Cricket. More than 100 yards from the interstate and you have NO coverage.
When someone comes over to visit.
Ask to see how many bars or what reception they have at your house.
Which do your neighbors use????

I currently have verizon mostly because other family members do and thier calls don't
count against my usage.
I have 2 routes home at night. The fast way and the way I have to go if I need to talk to
some one most of the way.
God help me if my car breaks down on the fast route--maybe i can throw the phone at passing cars.
