Yes, I understand the purpose of them.

However, there are never children under 12 in my house.

And my fine motor coordination sucks huge.

as to her lack of motor skills. Mine, thankfully, are abnormally good, considering.

As to the offending caps, in the States, at least, it is possible to request the old-fashioned kind. One lady at my pharmacy even suggests them.
