Good Thing I had Colonoscopy
Edited on Tue Aug-04-09 01:55 PM by Liberalynn
I've always had problems with my stomach and have been diagnosed with GERD and IBS, and the last time they did a colonoscopy seven years ago, they told me my colon was abnormally long but I had no polyps.

I hadn't had a problem in a long time since so when I started to have some symptoms I kind of just was telling myself to ignore it and that I was just nervous and over reacting.

But finally I broke down and called and the nurse practioner insisted I have another colonoscopy done . I finally agreed even though I was sure it was just the IBS.

Turns out there was the kind of polyps that could turn cancerous growing in my colon. They got them out so now I don't have to worry, but I got to thinking boy its a good thing I didn't chicken out before hand.

3. From what I understand, the procedure is much easier now than 7 years ago
I had one last month, and even the prep wasn't *too* horrible. (Don't get me wrong, I didn't like being stuck at home near the potty all day, but all in all...)

I was put to sleep w/ Propofol for the procedure and woke up feeling as though nothing had happened.

I'm glad you had it done, and I'm glad they took care of your polyps.

I'm sure your doc recommended that you not wait another 7 years for the next one.

4. I actually stayed awake during the procedure both times
Edited on Tue Aug-04-09 02:12 PM by Liberalynn
but didn't feel a thing.

The prep was the hardest part but as you said not overly bad.

They want me to go again in five years which is a good thing. My cousin did die of stomach cancer at 52, so I am glad they are keeping an eye out for me.

Glad you had it done too. Better safe than sorry! Thanks!

5. My dear Liberalynn!
Very smart move on your part!

I'm sure you must be quite relieved at this successful procedure!

Please take care of yourself, OK?

6. Thank you CaliforniaPeggy
It is a relief to know they were able to remove them before they caused more serious problems.

7. Good to hear!
Most people wouldn't listen to their body enough to demand an invasive test. That takes courage!
