I remember the first time I saw...
my very first "fuck you" sign...

I was maybe 20-21 years old, and I'd never seen one, ever!

I told my fiance this, and he was aghast. So we drove over to his University, and went for a walk...

And there it was: "Fuck you" on a bench.

My turn to be aghast...

Then, of course, I started seeing them all over the place!

Do you remember your first time?

:P

Ah, could very well be!

My parents were about as far from hippies as you could get! White-collar Republicans!

But not any more...they switched party loyalties a couple of years ago...

I was the very picture of innocence, believe it or not!O8)

14. I didn't mark the occasion
But your tale reminds me of an embarrassing car trip with my Camp Fire Girls group. Our leader, Mrs. Brown, a very buttoned-up type (nice lady though), was driving us all somewhere when we passed an exit sign for the unfortunately named Hard Road. Needless to say some wag had spraypainted "On" in the gap. Our leader's daughter immediately said, "Mom, what does 'hard on' mean?" She stammered, "Something bad." So of course her daughter and a couple of the other more boisterous girls started saying it over and over and over...

Poor, longsuffering Mrs. Brown.

15. My dear MorningGlow!
Oh, that's hilarious!

She asked for it, IMHO...she could have said "I'll tell you later!"

That's what I said to my younger daughter in the theater while we watched Tommy Lee Jones make love to Sissy Spasek in

"Coal Miner's Daughter"! She'd asked me "What's he doing to her, Mom?" Everyone around us laughed while I cringed!

And I did start to tell her later...when she said, "I figured it out, Mom." She was probably 8 or 9...

Life's most interesting moments!

17. YIKES!

I've got a few more years before MG Jr. starts asking embarrassing questions. I can hardly wait. :eyes:

In related news, a local radio station is trying to get a campaign off the ground to force our local supermarket chains to have a "tabloid-free" aisle "so you won't have to answer embarrassing questions your children might ask." Oh hell, I say if the kid is old enough to read the headlines, s/he's old enough to deserve an answer. Maybe not when you're trying to find your coupons, but it's the parent's responsibility to say "Later, dear."

20. I checked back in just in time to see Peggy type fuck!
maybe it will be a good day after all :P

I grew up in a family where creative use of profanity is damn near an art form but I do remember (or at least heard stories about) the first time I dropped the "f"bomb in public, my grandmother took me to the little library in Hartford WI and I walked in and said "look at all the fucking books", I was four, she was mortified :P

*example of the creative swearing master in my family, my father:

I am trying to resist a pointless descent into stereotyping - but are all Republicans, pseudo-populist; pseudo-christian; pseudo-moral, xenophobic, anti-intellectual; racist, anti-semitic shit bags!? The right in the country is indistinguishable from the Nazi SS only by the absence of jodhpurs and jackboots! I am really beginning to cultivate a loathing and hatred of these fuckers and I regret it as it is dehumanizing me.

Ah, sweetie! Any day you can say "fuck" is a good day!

And I love your stories! Both yours and your father's...

Four years old? Wow. Just ....wow!

And your dad sure did have it down to an art form, didn't he?

Good for you both!

And thanks for sharing, sweetie!

21. The first time I saw the word "shit", I was in 3rd grade...
I saw it written on the bathroom wall; and like an idiot, I asked the teacher what it meant. No recess.

31. The funny thing is, when I was in 4th grade, our teacher told us
we could always ask her about any words that we didn't know...all we had to do was write them on a piece of paper and hand them to her, like we were passing notes. She swore that we needn't feel embarrassed about it.

I asked her about a great many words like "shit", because they weren't in our dictionary, which I often used.

She didn't take away my recess, but she never responded. :(

24. Minga for me
Kids at school said it, so in a fit of pique, when my mom was annoying me, I said "Minga, mom!" with a roll of my eyes.

OMG I thought she was going to murder me on the spot.

27. Italian slang--the meaning gets debated a lot
Edited on Fri Jul-17-09 06:19 PM by MorningGlow
but general consensus usually settles on "fuck", used like "Jeee-zus!" or sometimes "Oh fuck!"

It's pronounced "meengya". Just don't say it in front of old Italian people... :scared:
