Car accident today. I was hit by a police car!
Three lanes. I was in the far left. Two cop cars had pulled over somebody on the far right. Traffic was passing them. The car in front of me slowed down to a stop. I slowed but passed him. Upon passing I saw the front cop car was pulling away slowly. No lights. I figured he'd let me pass before making his U turn. After a few milliseconds I could see he wasn't even looking. I slammed on the brakes, veering left into the turn lane. I was fully stopped and he hit me on the front passenger side fender.

The investigator said "preliminary indications" are that the cop "was at fault, but we have to review some things to make sure." The cop car was completely undamaged but my wife's car fender is really bashed in. Luckily the car was still driveable.

I wish those dirty coppers would look where they're going! I hope they don't try to pin the rap on me. Or should they?

1. Doesn't seem to be your fault at all. And I am sure there were

witnesses. Cops aren't always the bad guys you know.

Most importantly, glad you weren't hurt!!

3. Thanks. My brother is a cop.
And he's been involved in three bad car accidents as a cop and is really messed up from them. I'm glad no one was hurt. I just wish it hadn't happened. I still kinda blame myself (but luckily I didn't say that). Next time I'll be extra careful.

I don't hate cops (any more). I was just trying out my Jimmy Cagney impersonation!

4. Hey my brother is a cop too (or now a state trooper)! I also used to dislike them
until I realized (through my bro) what they really have to deal with on a daily basis.

I hope it all turns out the way it should, and I hope your wife understands about her car!! :)

2. You're lucky you weren't hit in Rhode Island.

In the mid-nineties a woman was killed by a speeding cop who wasn't on the way to a call.

A review of the backlog of police-civilian cases found that the civilian had been found at fault in 100% of the cases for the last 20 years a statistical impossibility.

5. My mom and I were hit my a cop when I was younger.
He was on call and ran a red light. But it was his fault and was deemed so.

6. Based on everything I have heard,
all the "evidence" against the cop will mysteriously disappear.

I have heard many stories to that effect, occluding one that happened to a friend of my best friend.

Sorry.

7. I disagree. I am sure there are witnesses.
I hate cop bashing as much as you hated the unrec feature.

Not saying you are cop bashing, btw! I have just seen it too many times here.

9. Fine. Let many a good man
update us on how this turns out.

The friend of my friend was on a mortocycle in D.C., obeying all the laws when a cop without lights/sirens hit him. I have met him; he lost his leg because of that, and all the paperwork mysteriously disappeared, cop got off scot-free.

What a surprise...

10. That does suck. But my mom and I were also hit by a cop when
I was a child. The cop was found at fault. No mysterious paper work gone missing.

I support the police. I do not support the bad apples. But I know they actually do put their lives on the line daily, and to forget that, or generalize all cops as bad is wrong.
