What was this guy thinking? There was an APB out for a bank robber

wearing a hoodie in Elba, NY yesterday. Based on the arrest photo, I can only guess that this guy figured if he discarded the hoodie and jeans, no one would guess that he was the bank robber!

You've got to go to the article - it sounds like a script for next summer's hit comedy!

Some highlights:

State police were having firearms training at Troop A barracks in Batavia at the time of the robbery, making “a lot of officers available,”

A sheriff’s deputy was in Oakfield at the time of the call and raced to Elba, where he found money in the road. Maha said it was “bait money” from the bank, money that apparently exploded inside the suspect’s vehicle.

The driver stopped at Lewiston Road and two men jumped from the truck and ran in opposite directions, Maha said. The driver continued, turning south before driving off the road and driving behind houses and into a field on the west side of Lewiston. The truck got stuck in the mud and the driver fled.

Dozens of officers, guns out, hid behind trees, cars and houses.

Gawkers, driving along Lewiston Road, slowed their cars. The road was not closed, despite an incredible amount of traffic. At least one accident was witnessed as a woman drove her small pickup truck into the rear of another truck directly in front of 8044 Lewiston.

And my favorite

Dozens of high-ranking officers from the Sheriff’s Department and state police stationed themselves at Z & M and a crew from Batavia Salvation Army was called to respond to the area to provide food and drinks.

1. Kinda makes the cops look funny - that's a lot of firepower to nab a guy
in his boxers...

(Not that I think they're wrong, it just looks funny.)

2. Talk about your bad days - the crew decided to rob a bank in a quiet
rural town, not realizing a bunch of state troopers were training about a mile away. This guy went into the woods and shed his clothes thinking the dogs couldn't track him if he was down to his boxers. I'm not sure what he had in mind to do if he hadn't been found..... a guy in navy plaid boxers trying to hitch a ride is kind of conspicuous.

6. The only other bank robbery with that kind of turnout I've heard about
Was in the little south Georgia village of Pavo. Two guys pull up in front of the Pavo Bank, get out of their car, pull masks over their faces and pull guns out of the back seat. This was observed by the entire group of customers at the only restaurant in Pavo directly across the street, about 20 farmers. While the two robbers went into the bank, the farmers all went to their pickups, pulled their guns out of the gun racks and arranged themselves at strategic locations around the entrance to the bank.

No shots were fired, but I suspect the would-be bank robbers needed new shorts after they walked out the door of the bank to face that much firepower. After all, when they went into the bank, there was not a soul in sight on the streets!

4. Read the article- the cops put every school for 20 miles around on lock-down,
then failed to block of the road alongside the woods where they suspected one of the guys was hiding. People slowed down to look at all the cops hunkered down behind trees, and someone got rear-ended.

Oh, and the Salvation Army was called out to supply donuts and coffee!
