Dishes
I'm in the market for dishes, and I'd love your recommendations...

What do you use on your table?

It has to be microwave safe!

TIA...

2. I'm old school, I use Fiestaware.
I have different sized plates, bowls, etc, in 3-4 different colors and I mix and match them. I like the way it looks.

8. Fiesta is gorgeous, but alas, the plates are too heavy for my hands which
tend to cramp up on me.

I am thinking of replacing my ancient Pfaltzgraf white stoneware with Mikasa's Italian Countryside.

periodically you can get a good deal on a full service @ Macy's or Dillard's.

My husband likes it and it is just the right weight.

9. My dear yellowdogintexas!
Great tips, all of them...

This is just the sort of info I was hoping for!

I have shoulder trouble, and heavy things are a problem...

Thanks, sweetie!

5. The best advice I ever got about buying dishes
is to picture a fried egg sunny side up with a runny yolk on it.
I've got a set of turquoise with lattice work around the edges. The bowls are deep & perfect for ice cream (they look great with hot fudge in them!)

6. My dear peacefreak!
Ha! You made me smile!

We haven't bought dishes in 20 years, and I just thought it would be useful to get some idea what people like these days...

Thanks for the tip, sweetie...

7. When our house burned down and I lost all my dishes--china, everyday, Christmas dishes, you name it-
Edited on Mon Jun-15-09 06:54 PM by mnhtnbb
I decided to use white Gibson china that I bought from Macy's. I use colorful serving pieces, some Fiesta ware in peacock blue, some Artesian Road from Tracy Porter, and some red Reco International clay pieces
(microwave safe) that I bought at Kohl's.

I usually use either black placemats, or go for all different colors in lime/blue/coral/yellow/fuchsia
if I'm setting the table as a buffet for a party.

Have fun!

11. I don't recommend it as a way to clean out the closets, but...you do get to start over.
