We are thinking about moving to one of these areas in northern Illinois as it is only about 3 hrs from Chicago and they are going to be putting in an Amtrak train within the next 2 years. My only problem is that I wonder if this is typical of all resort areas in that the "summer people" often take in stray dogs/puppies and the like and then leave them behind when they leave in the Fall.
This creates a miserable situation for the natives as these poor dogs are left to fend for themselves and will often get together and form a pack and run wild which can be a little scary, too, for you and your pets.
I've seen this situation once in this area where a pack of starving dogs was running wild many years ago and I wonder if it is typical of these places where people come, stay for a few months and then leave.
I hate seeing pets "cast away" like used kleenex and sure wouldn't want to live in an area where this cruelty went on. I would be wanting to adopt them all but I know that wouldn't be practical as I already have 2 rescue dogs of my own and they don't get along very well as it is. Thanks for any help
