Need help with dissident a Soviet composer
no he isn't in my house unwilling to leave

I ask for advice on "classical" music for running about 3 years ago and lost the thread

someone gave me a great tip on a dissident Soviet composer, I remember his name starting with a "K" but I could be very wrong.

My searches so far have been as fruitless as a Russian winter

1. My favorate soviet composer who kept getting into trouble with 'The Man'
Edited on Fri Jun-05-09 12:16 AM by DarkTirade
was Shostakovic.

But that's just me. :)

The only russian composer whose name starts with K that I can think of offhand is Kabalevsky, although I'm sure there's more.

8. I can't think of any others than Kabalevsky and Khatchaturian but
Here's the list from Wikipedia of "Soviet composers" beginning with "k."

* Dmitri Kabalevsky--pretty mainstream, set up national music education system
* Imants Kalniņš--Latvian, ventured into nationalistic pop and rock music, not well liked
* Eugen Kapp--Estonian, but seems to have stayed out of trouble
* Aram Khachaturian--Armenian, but pretty mainstream
* Haji Khanmammadov--Azerbaijani, but seems to have stayed out of trouble
* Tikhon Khrennikov--mainstream Soviet-approved
* Adam Khudoyan--Kurd from Armenia, but seems to have stayed out of trouble
* Alexander Krein--Jewish, but mainstream and approved

So that's what I get from following the links in Wikipedia. You might want to look at the Wikipedia list of Soviet composers and see if any of the names jar your memory. Maybe the name didn't begin with a "k."
