Anything to do in Dallas for two hours?
Ok, with the mess I'm sure DFW is I guess a 2-hour layover isn't much time to do a whole lot. Oh well carry on. Have to get my freak on in Seattle.

2. I work Friday, all day, and only get a 30 min lunch...
otherwise, I'd go say hello.

Oh, btw, my PM's are closed. I need a DU break. :-(

Hey, whatever happened to your friend's ticket? The one with the wrong name on it?

3. I went around and around with Orbitz to no avail.
Ended up getting a new trip through American. But I have a year to use my credit from Orbitz for a new ticket. sigh
I hadn't tried to PM you yet but I understand. Oh well, I'll wave as I go through the terminal. Might get a few weird looks but hey that's not unusual. :)

5. There's not much around DFW airport
The entire metroplex is very spread out. It would probably take you the better part of an hour just to get to downtown Dallas or Fort Worth.

Take the Skylink while you're still in the secure area and check out the newest terminal (Terminal D). There's some good restaurants and shops there.

6. Yeah I kinda figured that DFW was off by itself.
If I have a chance I'll check out Terminal D. Thanks!

7. I second Terminal D.
It's very nice. Lots of nice shops. Even if you don't want to spend the money, it's a good way to kill time.

13. Here's how you get around the DFW airport
When you get off your plane, stay in the secure area and look for the Skylink signs. The Skylink will get you from any terminal to any other terminal in less than 15 minutes. When you get to terminal D, if you go outside the secure area, you can't get back inside the secure area unless you have a ticket for a gate at that terminal. So you can't take the Skylink back. To go to another terminal, you'll have to go right outside and catch a shuttle. The shuttles run very regularly, so it's not a big deal, but it's not as fast as the Skylink.

18. Anything has to beat the USAir terminal
No decent food, half of the shops are closed - it's my idea of hell. And there is no decent food to bring on the plane - just giant rolls with a piece of ham and a piece of cheese in the middle.

Next time, I'll look for "D"

19. Terminal D is the international terminal
It's kind of the showcase of DFW these days. They just completed it a year or two ago. They imploded the old Hyatt hotel (there used to be two almost identical ones) and built a Grand Hyatt in it's place surrounded by the new terminal. They wanted foreign visitors to have a distinct impression of the airport when they arrived, so they went all out.

8. Just enjoy the airport

However, the last time I was there (1997) it was under major reconstruction. It's got to be better than George Bush International Airport in Houston.

...in the center of a lot of long terminals. Best airport to be in is Las Vegas at midnight on Christmas Eve...take my word on it. It can't get more entertaining than that.

20. I had a two hour DFW layover, too.
Edited on Fri Jun-05-09 11:23 AM by Tommy_Carcetti
Went to McDonalds, read the paper, listened to some music. I actually was sitting right next to the USO Lounge and kept on seeing soliders come in and out of it, and this was at the height of the Iraq War, so I just felt really bad for them. (It didn't help that I was reading an excerpt from "Generation Kill" in Rolling Stone at the time.)

Other than that, that was all I did at DFW.

Of course, from the Dallas perspective, that'll only take about 44.6 seconds. :P

27. Not anymore
The Skylink system changed all that and got rid of the Mr. Rogers trolley system. Even if you have to change terminals it only takes 15 minutes max on the Skylink, and even if you have to walk from one end of an individual terminal to another, it's only about a 15-20 minute walk. The Skylink is on the secure side, so you don't have to go back through security to make a connection between terminals. DFW is now one of the most efficient airports to get around, and arguably THE most efficient when you take its size into consideration.

In fact, the Skylink is not a bad way to kill time. You can ride it around and get the grand tour of the airport, which is bigger than the island of Manhattan.

29. Not enough time to leave DFW
Sorry to say that two hours at DFW is not enough time to do anything outside of the airport. There are a good number of places to eat, drink, or shop during peak hours at DFW.

Have fun...

at a time I like to walk the airport. Next time it's the train for me!
