1. Season 10, actually.
It featured 'Kill the Gator and Run,' a steaming turd of an episode that was so awful it signaled the beginning of the end. There were some fantastic episodes in Season 10, but 'Kill the Gator' was a sign of things to come, and it was a very very bad sign.

5. "E-I-E-I-(disgruntled grunt)" (season 11) was the last good episode for me...
And at the time, it was obvious the plots were more and more detached from reality. The show was always 'out there', but it was a parody and had ran out of ideas so they had to try something different. I'm not sure why, but the silliness over the "tomacco" episode I still like.

In ways the outlandish changes worked, but then by season 18, ideas that were once used solely as Halloween special topics became fully fledged episodes and frequently too.

The first 9~10 years are totally different in feel, though by season 7 one could tell the steam was starting to stagnate...

I think the show has made a slight comeback with season 20, but it's still nowhere as great as the first 6~9.

11. Yes, I agree that Tomacco was one of the last good ones.
Have you seen 'Kill the Gator and Run'?
It's worth watching, if you want to see a Simpsons episode fail in every way imaginable.

2. Hard to say, possibly the 17th
To me it went downhill when they started relying on celebrities, and always made a point of mentioning who the celebrity was, aka 'wow, its XYZ'.

3. I've never been able to stand The Simpsons
Edited on Sat May-23-09 11:56 AM by Skittles
I'm serious - I just don't like cartoons that much (although I do like the occasional South Park) and this one especially has garish colors, irritating voices and so-so humor - yeah I get it I get it, I just don't find it that funny

4. There've been bad episodes (like when Homer & Burns buddied around at Loch Ness)
I don't watch it enough to say it's jumped, per se. Whenever I do see it, it's still ten times funnier than Family Guy

7. No argument there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Family Guy"'s first two seasons were by and large rather good, but season 3 was awful... apart from the "Blue Harvest" parody (which was still tedious in spots), that show just keeps going downhill, becoming increasingly vapid, with more shock-jock antics because there is no storyline or anything of depth.

9. Couple of stinkers, but on the whole the program is still fresh and timely and growing
Americana lampooned, nobody is spared.

12. You missed the fine episode
It aired the anniversary of your birthday, you must have been partying.

13. The death of Maude Flanders was it for me
The tone was mean-spirited, the "uplifting" ending saccharine, the characters shadows of their former selves. I haven't seen a subsequent episode yet.
