For those of you who are going to ask "have you already put back on the 12 pounds you lost this month?", I'll save you the trouble. The answer is "yes".

13. Ha, and you thought Absinthe was decadent?!
Picture the director's cut of "From Hell", except with Johnny Depp in the bath eating a deep-fried Mars Bart instead of chugging absinthe.

Are you there yet...?

3. Why, at "Pirate Chips" in Nanaimo, BC, of course...
...and, I assume, at most health clubs in England.

They also have deep-fried Reeses Peanut Butter Cups, but I thought I'd try the shallow end before diving from the high platform!

I did a phone interview with an engineer on one of the ferries that services the area. He said it's heaven on earth. He was from Scotland and was the greatest guy. Said, if I'm ever out there to look him up and he'd buy me a beer.

(Stonehaven is about fifteen miles from my mum's house)

French batter Mars bars menu

Deep fried Mars Bars originated in Scotland

A Scottish chef has sparked a national debate in France after outraging food purists by putting deep-fried chocolate bars on the menu.

Ross Kendall introduced the "delicacy" after joining the Parisian restaurant Le Chipper when it opened last year.

That sort of thing will never work in France

Rival chef Marie-Ange Renaud
His menu also features chocolate-filled ravioli and chicken in Seven-Up but it was the popularity of the deep-fried Mars Bar with a dash of cinnamon that got French food critics in a stew.

The menu became the subject of a national debate after a prominent critic championed the fare, according to The Times.

5. It's odd...
Edited on Thu Mar-11-04 12:31 AM by CanuckAmok
The batter is exclusively reserved for sweets, so it doean't have a savoury flavor to it. It's a whole Mars Bar, flash fried in boiling batter. Basically, it's like a flavourless shell with a melted chocolate bar inside it. It's so soft that it has to be eaten with a fork. If you've ever had a fried banana at an Indian or Japanese restaurant, this isn't that far removed...

...but I don't think I'll repeat the experiment...I could actually HEAR myself getting fatter, and it was a little on the rich side for my tastes.

Did I mention it's served on a plate with a side of Redi-Wip?

7. Aha
boiling batter, not boiling oil? Interesting twist, I'd never thought of boiling the batter.

Cooked banana is excellent, although instead of frying them we slice them on one side, pack with chocolate, wrap in foil, put in fireplace for a few minutes. Maybe you're across that, but I'm not up with Canuck culture :-) When I think of Canada I think of the Goodies episode where their fire freezes!

I know what you mean about hearing yourself get fatter, I have the same thing going on with beer, but it isn't a sacrifice I'm happy to make, I'd rather exercise (just long enough to work up a thirst) Beer is like an extension of my own self :-)

It does turn up in the strangest places, like The Great Canadian Superstore, just along Country Hills Boulevard from my house in Calgary.

Made in Scotland from girders. It came south many many moons ago.

21. There is a restaurant in Sea Bright here in
central NJ (Thompson's on Ocean Avenue) that has deep-fried Mars bars on the dessert menu. It's a fish and chips place that has fab fish. They sell some British products, including Mars Bars. I never seem to have room for dessert after we eat there. Now, I just may, having read this thread.

24. Be careful, man
12 pounds in a month? Unless you're in your thrid trimester (even then really), that's a lot. Speaking as someone who just spent the past year getting weight off that I let creep up on me over the years, find a way to nip it in the bud now because the more you have to lose, the harder it gets.
In times of trouble, food can be used like a drug to forget about your problems just like drugs or alcohol. Just be careful to avoid this if you can. It creates a whole other set of problems.

I wasn't serious!

I have lost 12 lbs since February 12, and I was quipping that I put it all back on by eating the deep-fried Mars Bar.

Thanks for the haead-up, though.

For the record, I couldn't possibly be pregnant; I've had a vasectomy :hi:
